Marco Silva admits Everton need to work on finishing off matches after labouring to a 2-1 FA Cup win over Lincoln.
Despite going ahead through Ademola Lookman – with his first goal in 394 days – and Bernard, with his first for the club, inside 14 minutes they were pegged back by Michael Bostwick’s close-range finish and struggled to close out the game.
However, having progressed to the fourth round for only the second time in the last five years, Silva was satisfied to have edged past the League Two leaders. “First we achieved the main thing, to play in the next round,” he said.
“For some moments it didn’t look like we would have a quiet afternoon. We started with intensity and some good moments but after one moment we lost the focus and gave them some hope.
“It is something which has happened in the last few games and it is something we need to stop as soon as we can.
In some moments when everything goes well for us, even in our defensive moments, we are comfortable. “When you don’t achieve the good results, the confidence is not the same. We have to be more focused because in one moment everything can change. “We scored twice but they didn’t do anything to score a goal and we gave that option to them. We need to work to be more strong.”
