Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo has expressed delight with the team qualification to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, slated for Cote d’Ivoire.
Victor Osimhen scored twice as Nigeria sealed a place at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after the team defeated Sierra Leone 3-2 in Monrovia.
Osimhen gave Nigeria a well deserved lead in the 19th minute. He doubled the Super Eagles lead two minutes after the hour mark.
Sierra Leone pulled a goal back through Mustapha Bundu three minutes before the break before Augustine Kargbo equalised for Sierra Leone in the 84th minute.
Iheanacho scored the winning goal in stoppage time.
Reacting after the game, Omeruo stated that Sierra Leone gave them a tough fight but that they are delighted to pick the maximum points and qualify for 2023 afcon.
“It was a difficult game but we know we have to fight very hard to secure the points and qualify for AFCON.”

Omerue has reclaimed his shirt from captain ekong but sadly omerue would miss the next game as a result of a yellow card he got yesterday. Probably Ekong will get back the shit before omerue is cleared to play again.. I love the competition in our defense.. good for football
Ekong is a disaster. Awaziem is far better.
In all honesty is omeruo not more than 40yrs sentiment aside look at him we are all Nigerians n we should tell ourselves d truth,I have no personal issue with him our coaches should have included d FE guys ogwuche/Benjamin n played them in our next match, pesoro Is doing more harm to SE than good
Lol. He is only 29 years lol. We no serious for Nigeria I beg. Administrators can never give what they don’t have. Gasau and Peserio will only hammer well nail on the coffin of super eagles. Last match that is dead rubber, your guy say na that one e go use fine tune e team so additions are ruled out
Ogwuche and Benjamin are not refined and mature for Senior international football yet. They will be bodied and eaten alive. I will rather call for introduction of Raphael Onyedika, Toochukwu Nnadi (U-20) and Alhassan Yusuf(Antwerp, Belgium) to be drafted into our midfield in the last dead rubber game. But I don’t see that happening because Peseiro has no spine… he sis scared of experimenting and failing so as not to get sacked. He Peseiro, is not the coach to take our football to the heights we want.
Let’s be honest.. Nigeria currently do not have enough options in the middle.. onyedika once had his Chance, what did he do with it? Is onyedika the Messiah? Is Yusuf alhasan better than onyeka or aribo? What we need badly is a player to complement iwobi and we currently do not have any options….
The reason we didn’t qualify for the Last world cup was because iwobi was ineligible to play , when iwobi is absent, we are always in serious trouble.. finding his replacement is what the coaches should be seriously thinking about, if they know their jobs..
Ebere eze would have been a perfect replacement but he chose England, olisa is another option but he prefers France, the other guy in Bournemouth went for Denmark.. and with the world cup qualifiers starting in Nov , the next game in September should be an operation get iwobi replacement.. something tells me Ebenezer of inter Milan can do the job but we need him to at least get some game time in his club..
Very good points @ Ololo. But let’s call out the coach/politicians in our football house to give that boy Onadi a chance. That boy is strong, solid on the ball and very good ball juggler. He is well balanced on a low centre of gravity. A chance with our last dead rubber game will make lot of sense. Also, hopefully Ejaria gets fit again, he is the one to easy the job on Iwobi, irrespective of him playing in the championship. That boy, Ejaria, his confidence on the ball is supreme, reminiscent of the young KANU .
The coaches should give other players a chance in the next game.. we are already through to the Afcon..
There will be games in September and probably a friendly in October.. before the world cup qualifiers will start in November then afcon probably in January.. September should be used wisely… Pesiro ( if he remains as the coach) should scout for players in the areas we so badly need options..
Everyone is talking orban and Boniface, but are they better than oshimen, iheancho and awoniyi… We currently have excess strikers and few are blinded to the areas of lapses…
For example chukwueze doesn’t replicate his club form with the super eagles because he knows he will always start games.. who is he competing with? An age almed Musa. We need to use the next game to welcome a tella of burley, sarenwzee of ausberg Germany and Godwin savior or any other winger option we can find..
Again is the attacking midfied.. pesiro has so much work to do
Someone shud help me tell NFF to part way with this paseiro as our coach.. this is to tell that he doesn’t no anything about our football.. I just imagine why he didn’t invite onyedika of clubb brugge midfielder and Royal antowep of Belgian that just won the leaque.. nd u still keep recycling same undetermined Players like Ndidi ND Aribo in our midfielder… I just hope he is not been retain going to next Afcon… If you guys still keep him… Imagine a totally disgrace going out of the tournament in a group… The coach need to be paid off now
