Maria Sharapova has revealed her shoulder injury has forced her out of next month’s BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
The five-time Grand Slam champion has been struggling with the complaint, which has seen her withdraw or retire from two of the three tournaments she has featured in since the US Open last September.

Having now decided to pull out of Indian Wells, the 31-year-old Sharapova has admitted she is finding the problem hard to manage. “The shoulder injury hasn’t been much of a secret in the past year,” she said.
“That’s been something I have been struggling with and had to shut down the season after the US Open. “[It’s] still not where I want it to be, I’m still working through some painful days.
“That’s something that I have had to deal with since I was 21 years old and really at the peak of my career.”
