Serie A club, Genoa has appointed Arsenal legend, Patrick Vieira as their new manager following the sacking of Alberto Gilardino.
Since departing Ligue 1 outfit, Strasbourg in the summer, Vieira has been out of job.
Genoa, however, have only won two of their 12 games under Gilardino, enduring a difficult start to their Serie A campaign.
Five months following his appointment as Genoa’s head coach in December 2022, the former AC Milan, Fiorentina, and Italy striker led the team to promotion from Serie B to the Italian top-flight
According to The Metro, Gilardino was replaced after Genoa lost six of their 12 league matches, despite the team finishing 11th in Serie A last season.
Vieira helped Strasbourg finish 12th in Ligue 1 last season, but the 48-year-old left the club by mutual consent in the summer after clashing with the club’s management over players signing and choosing technical staff.
Genoa will be the latest club in Vieira’s CV having started his managerial career with MLS outfit, New York City. The former France international also managed OGC Nice and Premier League side, Crystal Palace.
After 12 games without a victory, Palace axed him in March of last year.
Vieira led the Eagles to a 12th-place Premier League finish in his first season there and received plaudits for the team’s attacking approach.
On Sunday, Vieira will manage his debut game as Genoa’s new head coach against Cagliari.
