Senegal defender, Abdou Diallo has set a semi-final target for the Lions of Teranga at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The FIFA World Cup is set to take place between November 20 and December 18 this year.
No African country has gone beyond the quarter-finals stage at the World Cup and the Teranga Lions defender is hoping to see his team break the jinx and better their record at the Mundial.
The Teranga Lions reached the quarter-final at the Korea/Japan 2002 World Cup, losing 1-0 to Turkey at the Nagai Stadium in Osaka, Japan.

Senegal are in good form after defeating Egypt 4-2 on penalties following a 0-0 draw at Olembe Stadium Yaounde, Cameroon to win the 2021 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) on February 6.
In an interview with BBC Sport, Diallo revealed his ambition to reach the last four in the World Cup with Senegal.
“Even though we can’t see the future, you have to be convinced that you definitely can achieve it,” the Paris Saint Germain defender told BBC Sport.
“We also had a glass ceiling in the Nations Cup final and we broke it, so my dream is to break another one. If we manage to do that, I will be the happiest.”
Diablo added: “There are no complexes. If we don’t make it, we don’t make it, but you have to accept that pressure because it means that we are doing a good job.”
Senegal are in Group A of Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup alongside Netherlands, Qatar and Ecuador.

SMH….
forget about eguavon ,our team started having problem just after covi and i dont see us getting pass first round even if we qualify ..for this senegsl team i think they shoud get to semi final .
Ofcourse with EGUAVOEN WE wouldn’t PASS FIRST ROUND…
But with GENERAL ROAH WE would have been BRAGGING of REACHING the SEMI FINALS just like how SENEGAL are doing now..
Lol. Like Oga Rohr did in the last world cup in Russia and at the Afcon in Egypt ba?
Eguavoen? He got it all wrong.
It is well. We should all agree that we wasted six years under our world best coach period. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
You call back to back AFCON QUALIFICATIONS (WON BRONZE in one of them and a RUSSIA APPEARANCE a wasted 6 YEARS????
SMH
@ Monkey Post, In Nigeria, our crook leaders take joy in pressing self destruction buttons in everything. You see the way Your NFF president and co crooks press self destruction to remove us from the World Cup? I will never blame our boys because the confusion and disorganizations the NFF created at the eleven hour is very sad and heartbroken.
Pressing self destruction buttons is like a norm in Nigeria – even the Nigeria youths dey press the button steady non-stop.
2023 elections don dey come ooo, see the way some of them go rush go press the button again oo vote recycled old politicians. Some of them go even tell you say, Tinubu na magician , that he will use his Magic make One Naira equal one Dollar.
Omo9ja, we really wasted those 6 yrs ooo. A terrible waste indeed.
In those 6 yrs, we qualified for every major competition with games to spare, won Afcon bronze, beat Argentina 4-2, beat Lewandowski and Poland 1-0 in Poland, drew 1-1 with Neymar and Brazil, spanked Cameroon our great rivals 4-0 on our way to qualifying for the world cup, beat Mahrez and Algeria 3-1, and other achievements. And we also discovered many new talents for the SE, due to Rohr’s scouting. He was doing all these good work, even though NFF ONIGBESE were owing him months of wages!!!
If you call that a waste, then I pray that every future endeavor that we embark on should be a waste!
Agama lizard says if he falls from a high place and lands unharmed, and nobody praises him, he will praise himself. Rohr has done very well for us!
You conveniently forgot to say that the same Algeria beat Super Eagles 2-1 at Afcon 2019 in Egypt to send Rohr’s SE packing at the Semi finals. What did Rohr achieve for SE in 6 years of huge Dollar wages that even local coaches like Steven Keshi did not surpass with far lower wages?
Rohr could not win any Afcon, never even got to the finals, never mind winning it- Amodu and Keshi did and the later even won us the trophy in 2013 in South Africa. Keshi also got beyond the group stage at the 2014 World cup in Brazil which your “magical Rohr” could not do in Russia 2018. Keshi did not have 6 years to raise an African beating SE unlike Rohr. So how is the mediocre Rohr the SE magician you ascribe to him?
You will tell us if Keshi or Amodu ever inherited a SE team ranked 70th in the world and 16th in Africa….LMAOOo. The worst SE team in the history of Nigeria. A SE team that couldn’t qualify for even ordinary AFCON back to back but reached the semi-final of a 24 team AFCON (Final of a 16 team AFCON) at the first time of asking…..LMAOOooo.
You will also tell if Keshi would have qualified from a group that contained the previous finalist as well as the eventual finalists of that edition (i.e a group containing Netherlands, 2010 finalists and Argentina, 2014 finalist) in 2014, the way we had Argentina (2014 finalist) and Croatia (2018 finalist) in our group in 2018. Even the most clueless of Nigerian football followers know that If we had IRAN and BOSNIA in our WC group in 2018, we would have qualified with 2 wins and not 1 scrappy win and 1 toothless draw like in 2014
Rohr’s years were indeed wasted years….LMAOOo.
I hope you enjoyed the “fruitful years” under your clueless owns….9 of them in number…LMAOoo.
It was clueless ignoramuses like you who misled your chief clueless minister into dragging our football 40 years backwards
Lest I forget, go and get your facts right. Rohr earned the same salary as Keshi in his first 2 years. In his remaining years after the World cup and a so-called raise, he was paying as much as 5 of his staff from his Salary, where as all Keshi’s assistants, including his foreign assistant were paid directly by the NFF. So his net pay was less than tht of Keshi
So clean your mouth and stop lying to us about Rohr’s wages. Wages that went unpaid for as much as 8 months in an entire year
Guinea is currently ranked 16th in Africa, any coach that can lead Guinea to qualify for the WC in 1 year, win a 24 team AFCON bronze in 3 years losing narrowly to the eventual winners in the dying seconds of the semifinals and 4 consecutive major tournaments qualifications with games to spare, using a team with an average age of 24 yrs for a greater part of his time, can correctly be called “Magician”.
Dont worry, common sense will tell you the true meaning of waste when the world cup kicks off in Novemeber and you are seeing Ghana on the pitch instead of Nigeria……LMAOooo
