Reigning champions Teranga Lions of Senegal have qualified for the round of 16 at the AFCON 2023 after defeating Cameroon 3-1 in Group C on Friday.
It is now back-to-back wins for Senegal who hammered Gambia 3-0 in their group opener.
This is Senegal’s first AFCON win against Cameroon since the 1990 edition in Algiers.
The last three meetings (1992, 2002, 2017) at the tournament saw Cameroon emerging victorious.
Manchester United first choice, Andre Onana, was back in action for Cameroon after not being included in the 1-1 draw against Guinea.

Also in action was Chelsea’s striker, Nicholas Jackson, who came on in the second half and had a hand in Senegal’s third goal.
Ismaila Sarr gave Senegal the lead in the 16th minute as his low shot inside the box deflected off Zambo Anguissa before wrong-footing Onana in goal.
Habib Diallo made it 2-0 on 71 minutes, slotting home a superb low cross from Sarr.
Cameroon pulled a goal back with seven minutes left through Jean-Charles Castelletto who powered a header from a cross past Edourd Mendy.
But in the 95th minute Sadio Mane ended any Cameroon hope of a comeback as he made it 3-1.
Jackson held off his marker and laid the ball to Idrissa Gueye who put in a low cross which Mane slotted past Onana.

I still believe the Senegalese are beatable. Though they have good players but they also make some errors that are publishable.
Cameron nearly did that today. Cameroonn were careless with the first and second goals scored by Senegal. You don’t defend like that against a talented team.
If Cameroonn had scored that second goal they missed it would probably have been a different case.
All the same the Senegalese are very efficient. They defend well and the convert their chances when they come.
But they are beatable.
Something is telling me we may likely face one of Ghana or Cameroon in the round of 16 as we are looking good to win the group. Both teams (Cameroon and Ghana) looks terrible so far. However, we all know how they play whenever they face Nigeria.
We should be able to beat either of them this time around, but I prefer we avoid them which is not our choice to determine. The tournament starts from the knockout stages.
As for Senegal they shouldn’t come across the SuperEagles before the final. Same goes for Morocco.
We are likely to meet Tunisia, Angola or Guinea.
Deo don’t know want to see or hear about GHANA! lol
This will be your revenge my bro
@srlfmade no revenge anything Ghana may be playing badly not when they meet Nigeria, world cup qualifyer taught me a bitter lesson i will prefer playing Cameroon than Ghana.
When it comes to Nigeria, Ghana is prepared to sacrifice 1000 goats to win the match. I prefer to avoid them!
Even in the Qatar World Cup qualifiers after the group stage, I did not want Ghana.
No matter the amount of Banku they eat when they meet Nigeria, we shall defeat them this time.
They never defeated us in the world cup qualifier, it was a technical defeat via the away goals rule.
Make sure they don’t eat Banku and we shall defeat them.
