Scottish Premiership giants Celtic and Rangers are ready to compete for the transfer of Nigeria forward Taiwo Awoniyi, reports Completesports.com.
Awoniyi is currently on loan at Bundesliga club Union Berlin from Liverpool.
The 23-year-old has scored five goals and recorded two assists in 14 league appearances for Union Berlin this season.
According to 90min, Celtic and Rangers are leading the chase for the forward, who has caught the attention of a number of clubs in Europe.
Awoniyi joined Liverpool in 2015, although failure to secure a work permit for the Nigerian talent has meant he has never made an appearance for the Reds.
Instead, he has spent the last five-and-a-half years on loan at various clubs in continental Europe and Union Berlin are his sixth different team.
Liverpool are now considering a sale as they could pocket more than £5m for a player they paid a relatively nominal fee for.

First I read Liverpool are considering using him as a replacement for origi next season, then all of a sudden they want to sell him. Well whatever the case may be, I hope Awoniyi makes the right choice this time around. Its time he stops going to a different club each year and become stable in one club where he is guaranteed playing time.
He also needs to improve his goal tally, he is doing well at the moment but he needs to do more, score more goals so that more offers will come from bigger clubs in bigger leagues.
You are right.
Its too early for all this . He’s still getting his feet esp in the goal scoring department. In my own view , I’d say score goals for the German club so that he can rejoin Liverpool . He has a lot of work to do
Why not stay put in Union Berlin. I see them going to Europe . German league is way better than Scottish league .
Please stay where you are, they know your worth there .
Moving from Union Berlin to Celtics or Rangers in Scotland is a demotion. It’s like leaving Lagos to live in Ogbomosho
He has no work permit, if he did he would have been playing for Liverpool, like your typical German, Jurgen Klopp about a hard working African.
