Schalke remain keen to sign Atalanta defender Robin Gosens this summer despite seeing a bid knocked back by the Serie A club. The Royal Blues are understood to have seen an offer turned down for the German defender by La Dea but could yet return with a fresh bid. Atalanta value the 25-year-old at around 12million euros and may be tempted into a sale – but only if they can keep hold of Timothy Castagne.

Gosens was La Dea’s first choice at the start of the season but then dropped behind Castagne in the pecking order, and Atalanta are only willing to sell one of the two full-backs this summer. Gosens began his career in the Netherlands and has never played in Germany but he has previously admitted he would like to play in the Bundesliga at some stage, while also stressing he is happy at Atalanta.
