West Ham look set to be boosted by the return of midfielder Carlos Sanchez to training next month. The 33-year-old Colombia international has been out of action since September after he suffered a serious knee injury just minutes into the Hammers’ EFL Cup match against Macclesfield Town.

Sanchez has made just six appearances for the club since he joined from Fiorentina in the summer. “Carlos had a problem with his knee ligament,” said boss Manuel Pellegrini at the time of the injury. “Maybe he will need a couple of weeks to be able to have surgery but he needs that. “The operation took place in October and the player is on course to return to training soon.
