Southampton have been handed a huge summer transfer boost with reports claiming Liverpool are not interested in Alex McCarthy. The Reds have been linked with the Saints stopper as they try to find a new backup goalkeeper.

Both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius are expected to leave Anfield permanently this summer and reports in England claim McCarthy was one of Jurgen Klopp’s main transfer targets. Liverpool have yet to make their first summer signing but the Liverpool Echo claim McCarthy is not on the club’s radar.
Ralph Hasenhuttl put his faith in McCarthy last season, with the England international making 25 appearances for the Saints. He will compete with Angus Gunn and Fraser Forster next season, although the latter could move on after falling down the pecking order at St Mary’s.
