I don’t think Sadiq Umar has a future in Real Sociedad. Appearing in 7 games out of 16 with no goals doesn’t particularly make for pleasant reading.
As much as I like him and respect any coach’s decisions, it will be a travesty to hand Sadiq Umar invitation to the Super Eagles with others burning rubber in minutes and goals in club football at home and abroad.
All hope is not lost though. Should his fortune take a turn for better, then eyebrows won’t be raised if Eguavoen or whoever hands him an invite.
For now, it’s best he sorts his form out in club football before national team consideration.
Exactly, @Deo. This was the same outcry many of us raised during the matches against Benin and Rwanda. It’s unacceptable that players struggling for game time at their clubs consistently get invitations over those in form and performing.
The excuses for Eguaveon—like needing “familiar players” or downplaying the importance of those matches—were weak. Every game matters, especially for a team whose performance affects FIFA rankings and future tournament draws.
National team spots must be earned. Players with no impact for club and country should be excused until they prove their form. This favoritism and complacency must stop if we want the Super Eagles to thrive again.
