The Super Eagles got their campaign at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations off to a disappointing 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea in Group A on Sunday.
A Victor Osimhen’s equaliser helped rescue a point for the Eagles against Equatorial Guinea who are making their fourth AFCON appearance.
Here his Completesports.com’s Super Eagles player ratings.
Stanley Nwabali
Made his first competitive appearance for the Super Eagles and looked calm throughout the game.
Couldn’t have done anything for the Equatorial Guinea goal – 6
Ola Aina
Had a good chance to put the Super Eagles 2-1 up but saw his effort stopped by the Equatorial Guinea keeper. Aside that opportunity did not do much – 6
William Troost-Ekong
Marshaled the backline well which did not really come under much pressure throughout the game.
Made a timely clearance off a dangerous low cross into the Eagles box – 6
Semi Ajayi
Just like Troost-Ekong, did well to keep Equatorial Guinea forward line at bay – 6
Zaidu Sanusi
Had the first big chance of the game for the Eagles in the first half but failed to slot the ball into the net from close range.
Was presented with another good opportunity from a counter but hit a weak effort which was stopped by the keeper – 5.

Frank Onyeka
Did not do anything of note as was just contended with the basics.
Must up his game especially as the Eagles will face the hosts as a lot will be demanded from him – 5
Alhassan Yusuf
Despite making his competitive debut Alhassan Yusuf put in a memorable performance as he was everywhere trying to make things happen.
Unfortunately had to be stretchered off with a thigh injury – 7
Alex Iwobi
Had the first chance of the game with a long range strike which was well saved.
Faded away after a bright start and came alive in the second half and set up both Osimhen and Sanusi with clever passes which they failed to put away – 7
Moses Simon
Started off on the right side but struggled to make any meaningful impact.
Switched places in the second half but could not do much and had to go off – 5
Ademola Lookman
Provided the assist for the Super Eagles equaliser and should have scored from a rebound but ballooned his effort over the bar from inside the box – 6
Victor Osimhen
Got the Eagles back in the game immediately after they conceded against the run of play.
Had a golden chance to put the Eagles ahead but put his effort wide after coming one on one with the keeper – 7
Substitutes:
Samuel Chukwueze
Was brought on for Simon but just like the player he replaced couldn’t make things happen as he was well contained – 5
Joe Aribo
Came on for the injured Yusuf but could not replicate the performance of the Royal Antwerp midfielder – 5
Bright Osayi-Samuel
Replaced Aina on the right side but did not do anything of note to help the Eagles claim the three points – 5
Calvin Bassey
Came on with less than 10 minutes left in the game and put in some wasteful crosses – 5
Paul Onuachu
Came on deep in stoppage time for Iwobi but not enough time to make any impact.

Una dey even do player rating again…lol shame no dey catch una csn..
I think Lookman did well. Yes, missed a couple of chances but he should have rated more than 6
Bastard Uzoho, stupid Pesairo, non sense players.
I said it before the start of the tournament and I’ll say it this coach will not win a single game.
All some of you do here is to talk trash without no concrete contributions. Cut the team some slacks and show some support to the team.
First matches are always very difficult in any major competitions, so most teams are very cautious in such games . I see them caging the elephnats and doing better in au subsequent games.
I’m not saying that the coach is good but the major blame should go to the players. Is it coach that made our players lost all the chances they had today?
Even, without coach on the bench, our players have what it takes to win today’s match. They are just not serious.
According to jimmyball, “let us fail with our own”. Hahahahahahaha. Make nothing do peseiro o. He’s here to saty. He is now our own
Somebody who missed 3 to 4 absolute sitters and you jokers are rating him 7 – better than most of the team??
You CSN lot are mediocre and this is the kind of mentality that hurts Nigeria – This guy should either not be rated in this game or have a rating of 2/10. FOOLS!
No surprised this is from an unknown reporter that watched the game from Pluto and providing analysis from Jupiter.
Which Iwobi ? The one that was invisible or the one that gave the ball away cheaply for the goal conceeded.
Onyeka, Iwobi, and Simon did not impact the game.
Osimhen was the main culprit missing several chances.
Imagine, debutants Nwabali, Yusuf
and Lookman making useful contributions. The reason why the team should be overhauled.
The only thing super eagles need to do is take their chances not all this one we are complaining I’m sure many of us here didn’t watch the match
Zaidu Sanusi deserves nothing more than 2. He was absolute waste and disaster. He was guilty for the goal as he was slow to cover/put pressure on that Guinea Ewuito player.
To be fair to the coach, he’s improved the overall team play. But the chances conversion rate has been poor over and over again. If he continues to ignore that part in training, his poor record will continue. The players need special training on precision shooting and goals conversion. It seems Paseiro stops at moving the ball forward and thinks the rest is all about luck.
Teams practice penalty shootout in training. They need to practise precsion shooting with half chances.
After AFCON this team should be overhauled, imagine Yusuf a debutant marshalling the defense . Onyeka should be excused from the team,he is not a super eagle material. I think badluck dey worry this guys too. Imagine waste chances today, it would have been 4to 5 _ 1
I’m satisfied with your analysis. Didn’t waste my time watching the March.
Read all my posts. l equivocally urged you guys not bother watch because the boys and their stupid coach are not good. l did not watch it as the next game will be the Nigeria water-loo.
They must come home after the 3 matches with a big shame. Why are these happening to the Nigeria football at this time? Because of the bad ways we killed the goose that lay the Golden Eggs. Let me give another shocker. Nigeria will not qualify for the forthcoming World- Cup in USA-Canada-Mexico Games. Until people like omo9ja, Odagbemi, Ugo, and Kennett and with all their cohorts’ tenders their unreserve apologies to our former Oga for the inhuman and degrading manner our former Oga was sacked from his jobs by the enemies within, Nigeria football ratings will continue to dwindle among football Nations of the World. Look now. How Market? Up Dr Drey, up Monkey I don’t care if he is a Ghanaian or not. HE stand up for justices and fair play.
Listen, my dear Edoman. I want you to answer me a question before you jump into a fine conclusion.
Were you satisfied with the results of Oga Rohr towards his termination?
Even before we asked NFF to replace the former tactician, we saw his low mentality and confidence, but he was fortunate we had so many fantastic players during his time with Super Eagles.
When Moses and Mikel left, he was nowhere to be found.
Oga Rohr is an average coach just like Oga Paseiro, but we have to put the blame on NFF because they hired the two because of their pockets.
Again, I still don’t understand how the EFCC hasn’t arrested Amaju Pinnick and his colleagues yet.
Both Oga Rohr and coach Paseiro could not discover good goalies and like to rely on players. Not until NFF called the attention of Oga Paseiro to Nwabali.
Did you notice that our defense believes in Nwabali. Did you notice that or not. Uzoho has lost his spot from today because if Nwabali continues like this, Uzoho will be forgotten in the Super Eagles.
Edoman, if Oga Rohr is great as you are painting him, why he hasn’t he achieved Benin?
We hire and we fire, which is normal, that is why we let go of Oga Rohr. We did not ask Looters Amaju Pinnick to rehire another coach in Oga Rohr.
Even he surprised me in today’s match because I wasn’t expecting that from him.
All in all, let’s forget about Oga Rohr because he wasted a good six years without a complete team period. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
Ny Brother omo9ja, our former Oga won for us a well-deserved BROZE in Egypt. He qualified us for World Cup in Russia. Our Oga qualified us for Cameroon with a game in-hand. Then, man inhumanity to man happened just as he prepared us for the real game in Cameroon. The rest is history. He left us at 32 World rankings. Where are we now.? Forty something and still going down. Don’t you think that the law of Carmer is taking effect on us.? A situation where the best in Africa is playing football without a purpose? A situation where good credible players are injured without even touching a ball? l am aware our former Oga cannot come to finish where he left us, but let us make amend and repent on our sins against the good one or Nigeria football will go abbess forever. Up Dr Drey. Up monkey post. Anyone who ever think that these rack-a-tag team that was put up by this buffoon will beat cote ‘de Ivoire in their next game had better his head examined.
