Novak Djokovic landed a record seventh Australian Open title with a 6-3 6-2 6-3 win over Rafael Nadal in the final on Sunday. World number two Nadal had reached the final without dropping a set Down Under but he was no match for a dominant Novak at Rod Laver Arena.
The Serb won his opening service game to love and immediately broke Nadal to take a 2-0 lead.
The Spaniard failed to win a single point against the world number one’s serve until the ninth game of the first set as Djokovic needed just 37 minutes to open up a 1-0 lead.
It was a similar story in the second set as the Novak broke Nadal’s serve twice and then raced into a 3-1 lead in the third.

Nadal, who won his only Australian Open title in 2009, did force a break point in the sixth game of the third set but Djokovic managed to hold before securing a second service break in the ninth to wrap up his victory in two hours and seven minutes.
Novak now holds the outright record with seven Australian Open men’s singles titles, taking his total Grand Slam tally to 15 – two behind Nadal and five behind all-time leader Roger Federer.
