Espanyol boss Rubi is confident his side are ready for the threat Eibar pose ahead of Monday’s clash. The Periquitos head to the Basque Country having not won away from home since October 21, picking up just a single point in that time.
Eibar are winless in seven but have only lost two of those games and Jose Luis Mendilibar has built their tactics on throwing the ball into the box.
Los Armeros have produced the most crosses in La Liga and pose a different challenge to the division’s other teams, the majority of whom prefer to keep the ball on the ground.
Rubi concedes his team know what to expect and has urged them to maintain their focus throughout the match at the Ipurua. “Normally, each game is prepared for by looking at the characteristics of the opponent,” he said. “We look at the virtues of the opponent and train for them and Eibar is the team with the most crosses. “Eibar is one of the La Liga teams that manages to be more faithful to their game idea and always manages to impose it. “You see an intense team that pushes a lot. We must be very strong in knowing how to hold these attacks. It’s a tough match away from home because the opponent’s football is peculiar.”
