Katia Aveiro Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, has labelled the World Cup as “the worst ever” in the history of the competition.
Aveiro stated this on her Instagram account after Argentina beat France on penalties to claim their third World Cup title.
Lionel Messi broke multiple records in the final as the superstar won the World Cup in his final match in the tournament, having previously ruled himself out of the 2026 version.
The forward missed out on the Golden Boot to Paris Saint-Germain teammate Kylian Mbappe – whose stunning hat-trick took the game all the way to penalties.
It is likely to be remembered as the greatest World Cup final of all time due to the high level of drama involved; France netting twice in a minute to take the game to extra-time, Messi and Mbappe produced sensational performances, three penalties being awarded, and the game eventually being decided on a penalty shootout.

So much of Messi’s career at the top level has been intertwined with Ronaldo, but the Portuguese superstar endured a difficult tournament, as the Euro 2016 champions were beaten 1-0 by Morocco in their quarter-final in Qatar over a week ago as their tournament ended early.
Ronaldo went straight down the tunnel in tears after missing out on the chance to add the only major honour missing from his glittering CV.
The former Real Madrid star, who is currently without a club after leaving Manchester United last month, will be aged 41 by the time of the next World Cup which will be co-hosted by USA, Canada and Mexico.
And reacting after the conclusion of the dramatic final between Argentina and France, Aveiro wrote on her Instagram account: “The worst World Cup of all time… that thankfully gave us a great final. What a match. Congratulations to Argentina.”
Aveiro added, in what appeared to be somewhat of a pointed blank of Messi’s achievement: “Kylian Mbappe. This boy is unreal. What a bright future awaits you. Incredible.”
Ronaldo’s future at club and international level is now deeply uncertain as he now focuses on finding a new club ahead of the January transfer window opening.
He now appears to be in the autumn of his career after falling out of favour under former Portugal boss Fernando Santos.
The striker was dropped from the starting line-up for Portugal’s Round of 16 6-1 demolition of Switzerland, with his replacement Goncalo Ramos netting a hat-trick.
Ramos was again preferred over Ronaldo for the quarter-final loss to Morocco, with the former United striker coming on as a second half substitute in both matches.

You are Ronaldo’s real problem. You think with your emotions and it is reflecting in Ronaldo’s behavior. It is obvious you have a strong influence on how he behaves. Rather than indulge him in tantrums, tell him the truth. He will be better for it.
They think the world revolves around a single person, Ronaldo and his people are good at brainwashing and playing victims with the least of chance. Ronaldo can actually be a better person as you’ve stated if he’s left alone or told the truth by his own people because they think age is a joke. Even Messi was not really at his best at the WC and played for the team when he had to, Ronaldo’s family influences him a lot, even his GF has been labelled a Gold digger that he shouldn’t marry her despite the number of kids the lady has produced for him. A man can have wealth but if you allow externals to rule your mind then you’ll live their lives and not yours which to me produces a counterproductive end. It is time for CR to retrace his steps and live his life so his career doesn’t end in mockery since European clubs are avoiding him which is already a terrible sign. Let’s say Messi was a free agent do you think he will be vacant for a week???
If Portugal had won with Ronaldo winning the Golden Ball this one who doesn’t understand football like many of the Bunch will talk differently. Weird people some will hate the WC because their Country were eliminated ASAP or their players were humbled, others will hate it because of Ban of Alcohol in Stadiums and the least of them all the LGBTQ or whatever they’re called because they’re forbidden at Qatar. One thing sums up all these people as Losers. For me it’s the best WC where the Greatest Player(King Messi) silenced all the Bunch of Nepios.
