Roma are facing more frustration in their quest to sign a new defender with a deal for Juventus’ Daniele Rugani now looking unlikely. The Giallorossi had hoped to sign the 25-year-old Italy international in this transfer window, but they struggled to agree terms with Juve.
A switch to try and bring in Liverpool’s Croatia international central defender Dejan Lovren also failed to materialise when the Serie A side failed to agree personal terms with the player.
Roma then went back to try and revive a move for Rugani, but they appear to have hit a brick wall over the terms of the deal on offer.
Rugani, who has made 87 appearances for Juve since 2013 and had a two-season loan spell with Empoli, wanted to join Roma on loan with a view to a compulsory permanent switch in 12 months.
However, Roma would only guarantee a full-time switch to the capital if they qualified for the Champions League, which was not satisfactory for Rugali.
In the meantime, Monaco have entered the race for his signature and it appears that he will now be moving to the French Ligue 1 side.
