Former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr led Benin Republic to a 1-1 draw away to Rwanda, in their Group L 2023 AFCON qualifying match on Wednesday.
The result keeps Benin Republic’s hopes of qualifying for next year’s AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire alive.
They are bottom in the group on two points but are two behind second placed Mozambique and just a point adrift of third placed Rwanda with two rounds of qualifying games left to play.
Reigning champions Senegal have already sealed qualification after recording four wins from four games.
In Wednesday’s game against Rwanda Jodel Dossou opened scoring for Benin Republic in 57 before Thierry Manzi equalised for the host.

Rohr is yet to taste defeat in the two games he has took charge of (two draws) as Benin Republic Coach.
Prior to becoming the team’s coach they had lost their last four games.

Very good coach wish he was in the dugout in our final qatar playoff which we lost sadly to bitter rivals Ghana. He knows how to manage a team to get them playing at a very high level,Benin is reaping the benefit of his tactical proficiency.
Wishing you success in your new job goodman Gernot Rohr.
The sports minister,Segun Odegbami played major roles.
They were loquacious vocal and persistent in making sure Rohr is relieved of his duties as coach of the super eagles.
Surprisingly have been obsequious despite Eguavoen and now Peseiro having bad runs as super eagles coaches. The question is what was the reason for the abhor at a coach meeting targets with a very remarkable winning ratio?
Odegbami was active writing horrible and lengthy pull him down articles against Rohr, the sports minister was a nightmare both were bent on that mission that has set us backwards, today the ordinary football fans are left to lick their wounds from the catastrophe created by administrators and an ex international the fans are the ones who suffer the most, sad to say.
I m not apostle of sacking of coaches .I believe in camping of team for longer days before a game. When troussier was coach he wil camp his team in Cote de voir for a week. And fly into Lagos a day to a game. He won all games in wcup qualifiers .but wat happened after.he was accused of playing strange style of formation to win . .the same strange formation he brought with Japan to win silver in Nigeria 99 world cup…. So this how Nigerians are .wen onigbinde won silver in afcon 84: he came back and was replaced. And in 86; eagles were missing in afcon dey never qualified.in 88 it was Manfred horner and 89 westerhorf. U can start the update from here for the premiership newborn guys .
Any coach that can play the Chelsea style can handle eagles.
Any coach that plays the man u style wil fail in eagles
Any coach that plays Liverpool style wil not find players to come to eagles
Any coach that plays arsenal style wil fail in eagles
Herve Renard is available and a Women’s French team is approaching him instead of Nigeria to be proactive and at least meet with him and offer him the Job when Pesiero Contract runs out these NFF Chief Commando’s will not even flinch a feather towards this guy. Even after they know his unmatched and Unrivaled CV on the African Continent Shamful
That’s it. A coach who can grind out results.
He mate a team losing 4 straight match, now he is in charge and they haven’t lost under him but manage a two match draw. If he was in charge of this team before now, they would have been ontop this group.
That’s the same way he mate Nigerian super eagles, a team who couldn’t qualify for two consecutive Afcon, and was about dashing out from it 3 times in a row because the group was so difficult and the team spirit was down. But General ROHR took the team out of that group to the surprise of everyone and went ahead to Carry bronze. He returned the status of super eagles back in place, rise in fifa ranking was on a fast trend.
But what do we have now after sacking a man who was meeting his targets. Calamity upon calamity, failure upon failure.
I wish you well ROHR, how I wish you came early to Benin, they would have qualified already for Afcon, am sure you will quality those boys for world cup.
@Greenturf are you a mind reader? Only a few hours ago I was wondering how the people who were shouting that Rhor should be sacked are not talking again now there’s an obvious disaster of a coach.I think those people(segun odegbami,Dare,Amaju)were just envious and evil and have no love for the country or were looking for their personal gains which Rhor did not oblige them
O Rhor good man,good heart!
This Is my coach
Even though it looks unlikely for Benin to qualify for Afcon I hope they can qualify and meet Nigeria and show us shege lol…..But with only 2 points and 2 games left which are must wins against Senegal and Mozambique……it looks tough but Rohr might just nick it.
GENERAL ROAH! The RICHEST COACH in AFRICA! EARNING from the SUPER EAGLES and EARNING from BENIN REPUBLIC…
I wish I was him lolz Having two national team paying him.
One (Benin) is paying at due time and with their right sense.
The other (Nigeria) is paying because of their cluelessness, stupidity and foolishness.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Rubbish PE teacher. People who didn’t even watch the game are here calling you a great coach. Maybe i would suggest you go watch both legs and tell us how great he was as a coach. This man took our soccer back by miles. Why is he not winning like he did with the eagles. Abeg spare us all this noise, let our local coaches take over the team simple. All this journey men need to go rest.
