Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr insists the side will cope with the absence of Wiliam Troost and Jamilu Coliins in Tuesday’s friendly against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, reports Completesports.com.
Troost-Ekong and Collins picked up injuries in the first friendly last Friday and have been ruled out of Tuesday’s clash at the Stadion Weiner Neustadt.
Rohr now has four defenders available for the game, but is not worried as he is determined to try something new.

“Ekong and Collins are out. I think we’ll have to manage the difficult situation,” the German stated.
“It’s an opportunity to play with three defenders only, to try something different.
“That’s why we’re happy to have the second game.”

It is a friendly and you should be trying new players and new tactics. Does it take half of the team withdrawing with injuries before you try new players? Even the new players weren’t given enough time despite the fact that the team is depleted. I support Rohr but I’m starting to doubt his reasoning sometimes. Must you use a full squad to face cameroon? Expose all our tactics b4 nations cup.
Many fans are saying try New players, others are saying don’t experiment, Cameroon is our rival, it should not be taken as a friendly we need to win them. So what do you want the coach to do. He is torn between trying new players and making sure the result is positive or respectable knowing how our Naija fans does not want to loose any match even if it is a dead rubber or friendly.
And Remember that the last practise match between the old boys and the new boys ended 3 :0 in favour of the Old boys. You can get that from owngoal.com and other sports site. Where Moses Simon scored a free kick and Onuachu scored 2 goals. So that clearly showed the Old boys seems stronger or more settled for now than the new boys.
The last match did not go as he planned, that was why he delayed changes. He wanted the familiar players to play the match and have a good lead before he will bring in the new ones which he is not sure of how they will perform. The Super Eagles old boys started well but wasted so much chance and conceeded against the run of play. And these were suppose to be his strongest available squad so you expect him to change half of them at the beginning of Second half and maybe then Cameroon then increases the lead to 4:0. Or start with the new boys and get beaten 3 to 4: 0 before half time.
So lets cool down, we the fan’s desire to win all the time is not helping matter. Experimenting is very good but every scientist know that experiments can give any result, either expected and unexpected and should be ready to deal with it. But Naija fans cannot take any kind result.
I blame the old players who wasted so much chances in the last match. The Cameroon goalkeeper was good but was not given very good balls. Most of the shots he dealt with were played outside the box, the ones inside the box where ballooned over the bar. Just imagine Nigeria had 17 shots and only 6 on target. While Cameroon had 3 shots and 1 on target and 1 goal. What massive waste. So now, no other option new boys must play. And lets accept any result that comes and any blame should not go to the coach only but to the players as well.
But I believe they cannot beat us 2 times is not possible. We are Nigerians, we usually spring surprises in difficult moments.
Honestly my brother, I don’t get this fable about not playing new players bla bla bla. You mean the coach hasn’t seen enough of players who have been training with him for 3-4 days to know if these ones are better or head and shoulders above the older ones…??? LMAO. So is it the 30 mins the new player will get on the pitch in which he will only touch the ball 5-6 times that will now sum up the assessment of the player…?
Was Zaidu Sanusi an old player when Rohr started him in his very 1st match for the SE…? Was Paul Onuachu a veteran when Rohr gave him a starting shirt in the SE on his debut…? Was joe Aribo an experienced international when he started ahead of other older SE midfielders on his debut..? What about Sam kalu, Chukwueze, Frank onyeka, Collins and the rest who have been thrown right into the fray from the start on their debuts…? Are these ones ghosts…? LMAO
There are several others who didn’t start on their debuts but have gone on to become a part of the team till today, has not getting a start or 30 mins on their debuts stopped them from working their ways into the team…? Players like bryan Idowu, Ebuehi, Ola Aina, Onyekuru, Semi Ajayi, Okoye, even osimhen and others who have become squad members today, were they thrown into the fray on their debuts just like that…?
When people have not been privileged to talk for long, one has to just give way when they finally are able to open their mouths to talk…for obvious personal and environmental safety reasons…LMAO. We all know it’s all down to selfish reasons, all these noise is just because some people’s fantasies have not been serviced.
The friendlies were not organized for the fan to see new players, they were organized for the Coach to see them….and I bet he sees enough of them in days leading up to match day to know which one is better suited to play ahead of the older ones (some who have been fringe players for long) on the balance of their comparative abilities. Anybody that wants to see new players should wait to become the coach, then you can line up an entire squad of 11 debutants in your starting line ups.
If you are not comfortable with the coach’s methods, dust your CV and put in an application for the job so you can do that which you want by yourself. One moment the coach invites too many players….the next moment the coach doesn’t give players a chance. One moment, the coach is rigid and doesn’t encourage competition in the team….the next moment we cant even name 13 regular players in the current SE….LMAO (ridiculous). One moment, the coach is predictable…..the next moment why does this coach not have a definite style of play. Confused bunch….LMAO.
Ask them to show you their coaching portfolios now you’ll see blank pages all through….LMAO…but na dem sabi pass the coach wey get the job….LMAO
Oh dear @Dr. Drey you are too much, you just took this out of my mouth verbatim, I have been mean to address this issue but due to time constraints but wow you did absolute justice to the issue. Kudos to you my guy!!!
This man is very predictable,he will still play iheanacho and onuachu in attack, he may start uzoho tomorrow and those new guys will have normal 4/5 mins of playing time
Rohr na coach?
No sir, Rohr nor be coach,na pastor…na you be coach
Stop complaining Belmadi’s boy!
Just like SE, the cameronnians are missing many of their regular.
Sack that ethnic jingoist handling our GK department:
Alloy Agu is only interested in GKs from his region. At some point,, this sham keeps inviting his tribal GKs even when they were non active. He has continued to block tested Gks like Usman, Alampasu, Adeleye and Tobias Lawal.
The best central pair for SE remains Akpoguma and Balogun, I can’t remember the last time SE defence kept a clean sheet without Balogun. Ekong has not improved in important areas like ball playing skills and positioning.
The midfield needs a good replacement for ndidi and Aribo; Etebo has lost it. What is going on with Ejaria and Olise.. Abdullah should be moved to the midfield.
The SE needs the attacking threat of Lookman. IF he is not available V.Moses should be considered. VM is still useful.
Nacho doesn’t appear to be interested or motivated to play in SE matches. Nacho Leicester scores and provides assists. I can’t remember the last time he scored or made an assist for SE.
Since the friendly match I’d not important to you, what is stopping you from starting Izu, Samson, Moffi, Olayinka and Marcus tomorrow ?
New info rohr to play 3-5-2
