Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr says his players must be at their best against a quick and defensive Cape Verde team, reports Completesports.com.
The three-time African champions will take on the Blue Sharks on Wednesday (today) in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying matchday two fixture at the Estádio Municipal Adérito Sena, Mindelo.
“They like to play quickly in the attack, they have wonderful players like Mendes, they have players in France and they have offensive players,” Rohr stated.
“They like to set up with three at the back and we know they like to defend, but we have our idea and we have our tactics to score goals and win the game.
“I know it won’t be easy with our situation, but we are a super commando, and we have to show our fighting spirit.”
Rohr will be without some of his key players for the game after the United Kingdon-based players returned to base following the unchanged stance of UK authorities concerning protocols and guidelines that must be observed by anyone returning to the country after visiting a country on their COVID-19 red label, of which Cape Verde is one.
The game will also be played on an artificial pitch which the players are not used to.

“It’s a different pitch because and we are not used to playing on a synthetic pitch, some of our players have played on this pitch before when they were playing in Nigeria, but they are now in Europe,” he explained.
“We trained in Lagos on a synthetic pitch, but this one is softer and this is better to play on.
“It will be hot (on match day), but we have to adapt and give our best.
“We have to change the team, we have only 19 players available for this game and we have some problems and it’s a challenge.”
Rohr further said the home team want to win after they drew their opening qualifying match against Central African Republic.
“Cape Verde want to win because they drew their first game,” he said.
“We have been preparing since we were in Lagos, but Cape Verde had more days to recover.
“It will be a physical challenge, but we will be ready.”

Next time coach broaden your squad in situation like this.I understand you pick the best and in form players and can’t go below your high standards, but we have a situation here caused by the British authorities,we expected you to have expanded your squad.
Apparently, you have 18 players three of whom are goalkeepers,we have a situation here should a player go out injured especially in the midfield that would put the team in a very difficult situation.
I’m surprised you didn’t add to Michael and Bonke. The likes of in form Obinna Nwobodo is there and available but no invitation was extended to a player who has improved so much and one of the best midfielders in Turkey.Ifeanyi Matthew is another player doing well in Norway as well his colleague Igho Ogbu.Ifeanyi Matthew and Obinna Nwobodo would have added numbers to the midfield and quality ones for that matter. Its strange and absurd the stinginess in invitation especially in this conditions.
Anyways I am sure we would manage the situation and come out with a result otherwise the coach will have the bulk of the blame from crazy soccer loving fans of the super eagles, but a win under this condition will make Gernot Rohr a hero.
I wonder why Rhor is complaining. We have good players every where rearing to go.So if English players are not playing what happened to players in Italy ,Spain ,Holland and Russia.Coach why Ebuehi not in your team instead you preferred to left full back at right full back intead of natural right full back against Liberia.Rhor stop buying our players out of their natural positions except in a situation we have injuries or red card issues. Please stop complaining we have players all over the world.
“…we have our ideas and tactics to score goals and win the game”
“I know it won’t be easy with our situation, but we are a super commando, and we have to show our fighting spirit.” …Coach Rohr
Later critiques we say our coach always lacks confidence and does motivate the players to win.
But, here he calls his boys “Super Commando” and this is without about 10 of his regulars or starters. What better way of motivation is superior to this.
Ride on Super Eagles, I believe you guys can get the job done. Even though, I’m not happy with the fake covid test that rulled out Kalu and Ebuehi. This would have been their opportunity to show what we know they possess. All the same our boys in camp are super commandos and can get the job done.
@ikeben, no, they won’t see this one. They would just read jump and pass without saying anything. But if say na when he complains and speaks the reality, Pam!!! You’ll see them crawling out from every creepy corner like zombies. Even the ones that we have never seen and the ones that always change their user names to appear as different persons. We know them. God would silence them again with a victory against cape Verde today.
I dey sense say this man want sell off or loose this match. If not while all this excuses? na today dem Caf fix this match, abi u no get Technical advicer? Na so him go sell off the match against Madagascar for last Afcon. Hmmmmmmmmmm yeye dey smell ooooo.
What is this one even saying. We have an omo9ja clone in the house.. Ah! Extra headache.
Okay, Mr.. Rohr,, we hope to see the tactics and technical input on the field of play.. The good thing is that there will be no excuse about the pitch..
There will be no excuse about players because the current set of players in SE are more valuable than cape Verde team.
The outcome of this game lies of the technical ability of the technical bench.
I hope you have heard of Adewale Oladoye of Gent in Belgium. Oladoye is one the shining stars in his club.
