Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr insists that the international friendly match against Brazil on October 13 in Singapore is not one to experiment with or try out new players, Completesports.com reports
“I am glad that we have all the Super Eagles regulars back in training and playing for their respective clubs, so I have to play my best players against Brazil. It’s a good test game and we shall give it our best shot ahead of our AFCON qualifiers againt Benin Republic and Lesotho,” stated.
“Brazil have invited their best players to tackle us and we cannot afford to toy with our list of players. I have submitted the list of players I think will give a good game to the South Americans. NFF should release them list soon.”
Rohr revealed that the Nigerian federation is working hard to get an African opposition to shape up the Super Eagles after the Brazil game ahead of the qualifiers.
Completesports.com scooped that Francis Uzoho, Glasgow Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo are in, while skipper Ahmed Musa, Wilfred Ndidi and Kenneth Omeruo who missed the friendly game against Ukraine will return.
Shehu Abdullahi, William Troost-Ekong, Victor Osimhen, Leon Balogun, Chidozie Awaziem, Alex Iwobi. Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon and Samuel Kalu are also in the squad for the Brazil friendly.

Shehu bawo…ohhhhh gawd
I guess this is your response to Legend Westerhof’s call for invitation to valuable additions to the team.
Since you are selecting your best against Brazil, the result of the match can be considered as your best.
No need for “your team” narrative if you lose heavily.
We look forward to the list and match.
Brazil can’t beat Nigeria that I can I assure you all. The Super Eagles will be ready for them!
I agree with you simply because these lads representing Nigeria at the moment are very committed and willing to give it all. The result will be a good one.
How come is Shehu in that squad, how, he is never a good player, someone somewhere is keeping that guy in the national team, if you must succeed e don’t need Shehu, he can’t grab a shirt in championship league. C’Mon.
Quota system at work….putiful
I can bet with anybody that there will be two scenarios against Brazil come october 2019.
I. If brazil is leading us a goal or we are drawing or leading at sixty something minutes to the game, Coach Rohr will not make changes or injecting new players into the match. but if we are been led by high margin he would have lose hope and introduce players on time.
2. I can bet with anyone that Coach Rohr will not use more than three players come any circumstances be it we lead or they leading us. I have this problem with Coach Rohr. He needs to understand that early substitute brings more energy to the team and not thinking of saving substitute for injury.
How many technical advisers and coaches do the Super Eagles have . Because I thought Rohr was the man in charge . He has his plan his style of play and selects the players he feels will do a job for him . It was only a few weeks ago that he was told to pick hone based players , well does 4-1 Togo say anything . Let the man do his job , which in my opinion he is doing very well . These boys will do better in the next Nations Cup if he remains in charge . Anyone else who feels they can do better should wait for their time , but this man is changing the DNA of Eagles and the Nation will thank him in years to come
Good one. Only those playing regularly for their clubsides should be invited please. Only the best should play against the best.
As for Shehu Abdullahi, alot of people seem to be losing sight of the fact that Shehu Abdullahi is essentially a midfielder, and not a right fullback. He has been playing majorly as a defensive midfielder for his clubsides. I would like players to be played in their natural positions. This will bring out the best in them. Shehu Abdullahi is an utility player, one who is good to have around in the team.
The likes of Iheanacho, Isaac Success(remember him?Lol.Though injured at the moment) are steadily on their way to oblivion except they pull themselves up by their own bootstrap ASAP to arrest this slide into obscurity. They need to work harder and perhaps find another clubs as well.
There should be no place in the squad for Leon Balogun, Shehu Abdullahi nor Kelechi Iheanacho.
Although Shehu had broken down in the first half for his last two super Eagles matches he is playing regularly now but in the Turkish second division. Ebuehi is now fit and played 45 minutes for the Benfica under 23s.
Leon has not turned out for Brighton this season. Fikayo Tomori is a worthy replacement and the NFF should do all they can to bring him on board
Kelechi is also a notable absentee in action any one of Olayinka (Sparta), Iyayi (Zagreb), Ajayi (Al Ahly), Dessers (Heracles), Ejuke (Heerenveen), Onuachu (Genk), heck I’ll even take Umar Sadiq (Partizan) before I’ll think of Iheanacho
You’d always love BigD’s balanced views. 100% in support. I’ll just add that Simon Moses and Ezenwa should rest and no Esiti please. Bring on Ebuehi, Tomori, Olayinka, Okoye etc for the slots
Ok we go see. Any error around the box 18 will be greatly punished and any lack 9f concentration especially in the back. All the best eaglea, this will be a great test.
My starting line up: uzoho, aina, collins, ekong, omeruo, ndidi, aribo, iwobi, kalu, chukwueze, osimehn.
Good lineup but I would pick Musa ahead of Chukwueze so Musa and Kalu on the left & right flanks respectively.Etebo instead of Ndidi. So my preferred midfield trio are Etebo,Aribo,Iwobi I love to see that combination once more,Ndidi could come in the second half.In the central defence I would prefer Semi Ajayi and Omeruo’s combo.
So my line up against Brazil Gk Uzoho.Df Aina,Collins,Omeruo,Ajayi.Md Etebo,Aribo,Iwobi.Fd Kalu,Musa,Osimhen
“Rohr: No Experiment, I Will Play My Best Eagles Against Brazil. I heard you coach”. No wahala. As long as you don’t disgrace us against Brazil.
What we can do now is to pray for you.
If you like, include Akpeyi and Agbim in the squad. All I want to see on that day is total football. Yes, I mean it.
I want to see your game plan.
I want to see good football from our team.
But if the result couldn’t changed against Brazil, ah, Mr. Rohr should not given us excuses again o. Shebi you are saying now that you, coach “Rohr: No Experiment, I Will Play My Best Eagles Against Brazil”?
Not a problem sir. I’m solidly behind you but if you failed Nigeria again. Hmmmm, no comment for now because it is too early to talk. Good luck to you Oga Rohr. You know I love my Country and please, don’t let the Brazilian team to humiliate us on that day ooo. God bless Nigeria!!!
I hope Nigeria will fight hard to get Abraham, you cant trust our young new strikers for now, pls tell our coach to invite Aribo and Maja, after brazilan game, Nigeria need to start inviting players like ebere eze, chuba apkom, ojo, we need compatition in super Eagle squad, i believe brazil game will open Nigeria eyes but Nff should get African team as well so that other players who didnt play againest brazil will play as well
I guess Rhor will play nine defenders and one attacker.
Lol
It’s actually very interesting to know that Brazil is questioning the choice of Nigeria and Senegal for the International friendlies. Lolz…
My inner man tells me that the Samba boys and their FA are in for a rude shock provided our coach parades our best players and the players stay focused and remain positive throughout the 90mins. #BrazilisBeatable #iRepNaija
If that’s the case Rohr, then pick players who are actually playing and not sitting on benches
Junior Ajayi is playing regularly and scoring goals
Kel Iheanacho is still on the bench at Leicester city
Choose the best because Brazil just listed the nest fr their team and want you guys to do the same
NFF no excuses f or choosing re best players and no wanting to change or go to the back door in selecting players because one should see this match as a means to prove s point to the Brazilian ppl that World cup flops you call SE nevertheless their butt will be ours
Also to the ppl reading this comment , look at the big picture, should in case SE do reach the final of a world cup , how would they prepare against a team of either Brazil or any veteran that has been there all with the one purpose of winning the world cup for the first time and more . The time I’d now to wake up the Giant within the SE…..
Correction. Iheanacho is not even in the bench. Has not been named amongst substitutes self in the last 4 games straight
The coach should invite players that are have not been in his team since he started, right? The same way he bowed to pressure and invited Onuachu who decorated Denmark with goals, right? The same way he should invite Odeh and Olayinka, right? You guys should free this coach, he knows his boys. We’ll manage the ones he is giving us like that.
the coach should be inviting players who are inform playing regularly like peter olayinka
Nice to hear coachee.we really don’t
need further experiments like shehu Abdullahi .He has served us well and for that earn our gratitude. He has been static progressively for some time and needs to pave way for dynamism.we should also be mindful of the ceaseless clamour for any Nigerian player that scores a goal or two into the SE.This team is a beautiful work in progress and if we decide to invite everybody ,then in a hundred years we will still be inviting because talents will keep unfolding from our blessed country.
A few plugs to the holes would do. Then proper management and cohesion Will definitely make us unstoppable.i expect a decent result against Brazil. Up naija
Based on consistency and current form, Ramon Azeez, Chkjioke, Ojo ,Ramon Olayinka and Junior Ajayi deserve to be on the list of invited players.
No team is invincible, Brazil included. But a touch of humility would do a world of good. After all, this is Brazil, five times world champions.
Tomori:-‘I’m a citizen of all three [countries] so we’ll see. I was born in Canada and lived there about seven or eight months old. My family is Nigerian, obviously I live in England. It’s nice to have that. I can’t play Under-21 football anymore so the last international break I didn’t get called up to anyone. Next one maybe we’ll see.’
NFF should act fast be4 we lose him, he’ll add to our defence, now Balogun is aging.
WAKE UP CALL GUYS!!!
HENRY ONYEKURU
Much to the joy of football loving fans all across the country and abroad, we all celebrated Onyekuru’s permanent transfer to AS MONACO because it will was a good step by him. Ever since he got to Monaco, he has played just 2 games and a substitute appearance in the match before there last one. He didn’t really impress on his debut against Dijon and followed that up by a superb showing in the next match at home against Amiens and he provided two assist but there opponent came from behind and equalized. The Coach decided to try out Gelson Martins of Portugal in his position in the next match and since then they’ve not lost a single match and also they’ve won matches after that change. Does a Coach changes his winning team?? Absolutely No! So since then, The Monaco Coach has sticked to the front 3 of Gelson, Slimani, Ben Yeeder/Golovin. He(Onyekuru) has gone on to make just one substitute appearance since then.
The present Super Eagles squad is based on regular showing for their respective clubs and consistent performance. We also have lots of wingers/attackers scattered all over and are performing well for there clubs. So should HENRY ONYEKURU be called up for the upcoming Brazil friendly ahead of other attackers presently in form or he should stake a claim in AS Monaco before he’s given a call-up?
Great question ? This will serve as a good template/example to players in similar situation. Onyekwuru is yet to stamp his authority on current SE set-up and it won’t be a big deal if he is not invited for the next friendly.
The midfield and attacking position are filled with options to SE manager. I hope proper scouting is set up to identify new talents for SE defence and goal keeping positions.
Rohr Could Start Osimhen, Chukwueze And Kalu Against Brazil – I Like What I Saw Against Ukraine
From all indication coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr appears to have settled for the trio of Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze and Samuel Kalu as his favourite three in the attack of the Super Eagles.
The coach started the trio in the Super Eagles last friendly game against Ukraine and their combination produced two quick goals which were cancelled in the second half by Ukraine.
However, Rohr was pleased with the way they played in the game and hint at starting them again when they play Brazil on the 13th of October in an international friendly game in Singapore.
” It was something we saw in training and tried it in the game. I really like what I saw and we will likely play them again in future games, maybe the next game “, the coach told Owngoalnigeria.com.
” Chukwueze like to run at defenders, same as Kalu and Osimhen uses his strength to get behind. We are building a team and patience is required if we want to have the best”.
