Former Nigerian midfielder, Friday Ekpo has called on Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr to build a formidable team that will make Nigeria the giant of Africa.
Rohr qualified Nigeria for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon unbeaten after topping Group L that consists of teams such as Sierra Leone, Lesotho, and Benin.
In a chat with a Lagos Based radio station, Ekpo urged the German tactician not to close the door on new players but to keep inviting quality players that will add value to the Super Eagles.
He appealed to Rohr to pick the very best of players that are constantly playing regularly for their clubs in Europe in a bid to restore the glory days of the team.
“For the Super Eagles we are still building and we keep building. The word there is to keep building, to build a very strong team into winning ways so that we should be giant of Arica.
“Pick the very best of players currently playing week in week out, so that the coach will be at ease to do his work perfectly okay so that we have a better team for proper selection.”

Rohr has always picked the best players available.
Asking him to do so is like wanting him to do what he has always done as super eagles coach.
Absurd to me.
I think you should channel that advise to our indigenous coaches.
Gbam!
I think he was clearly referring to the selection of Ahmed Musa which, I am sure you are aware. You are only trying to deflect from the case in point. which puts a BIG “?” to Musa’s selection in last qualifiers… Why do you try and deflect the matter always @Greenturf or whatever you call yourself???.
If Rohr has always selected the best legs why was Musa selected???. Musa’s selection is clearly the point of reference to Friday Ekpo’s Comments I think even a toddler will pick that up
Which means Friday Ekpo is right and your attack on him is unfounded and you should apologise.
Forget that, musa has paid his due in the national team and if he is having a little problem and a coach decide to help him come up , is there anything bad I
n that?
Secondly musa has already signed for kano pillars, so ur case on him is not an issue anymore
Thirdly has Rohr not been picking the best before? Wat kind if advice is that
Why also Amokachi was selected in NIGHA 2000 AFCON? Don’t u see his role in d team. Or who is always ginger Aghahowa while scoring..
Pls leave ROHR alone. We all know that he has disappointed Nigeria coaches by not allowed them to do players businesses
@TALK UR OWN And you think Musa’s Selection is not Player business??, shows how “NAIVE” you actually are.
I have noticed the pattern of words our ex players use when they talk about rohn..
He should use the best players, what has he been doing all these while..
In developed countries most of the ex players get into coaching after playing football but our lazy ex players are satisfied to sit down at home to criticize other coaches even when they are doing well..
Our problem in this country is more than buhari
@Ololo… You said in developed countries… so this in order words means Nigeria is not developed. Lol… maybe the underdevelopement of Nigeria is what has made their options after a football career limited, don’t you think so? Sometimes with Rohr inviting the likes of Mikel Agu one can say occasionally some strange players are thrown into the fray… also, the occasion of playing Musa who for over six months up to the last two qualifiers was inactive was a collosal negative and sadly unapologetically unprofessional… objectively speaking!
Ever since the coach said he wouldn’t be inviting any ‘new’ players for the WCQ, the tempers of these agents have flared hotter than a furnace. Invite the best…invite the best… Which best are better than the 30man shortlist Rohr already has at the moment…??? Maybe they cant actually see that the coach already has a pool ready and wants to find balance, continuity and chemistry ahead of the WC and AFCON early next year….afterall, one olodo amongst them shamelessly claimed he cannot name 15 players in the current team….LMAO…when fans can effortlessly name 30 on this forum…..trying to make Rohr look bad but ending up disgracing himself….LMAO.
The 30 best Nigerian players in Rohr’s A-list pool at the moment are all doing well both for their clubs and when called upon in the national team…..any superstar that will emerge between now and next afcon that will tower higher and above those 30 in terms of talent and performance must really be a born superstar…but the team needs to bond, consolidate and find consistency now. Enough of all the chopping and changing….enough of all these noise about inviting new players under the guise of “Rohr must select the best players”….he has been doing that since 2016 already, and we have risen from 16th place is Africa to the top 3 within that period. What we need now is more of consistency and continuity to become the no 1 team on the continent.
Terem Moffi is that born super star ⭐️
Tell them….lol
Is Terem Moffi not 30 players in Gernort Rohr’s list.Read and understand before commenting.
Give our Ex Players a break!! By highlighting this they are only underlining the fact that a player who has been club less for over 6 months has no business in the squad let alone captaining it when you have Stars in big clubs overseas. If they don’t raise this topic then it will become out of control down the line. Today it’s Musa, tomorrow it will be 3 more clubless players in the squad.. we need to shine the light on this now so as to reiterate that this sort of bias selection cannot and should “NOT” be tolerated. I think the Musa ship has sailed as I pointed out earlier. Musa’s corner were only blowing false lies in connection to the outcome of his failed trials at West Bromwich Albion FC. Look where he has ended up today in Kano Pillars.
Abeg find another excuse. Even in the 94 SuperEagles squad we have about 4 players who were unattached. Eguavoen and Keshi were unattached. Thompson Oliha and Micheal Emenalo were unattached yet they made the WorldCup squad. This one you’re just crying about Musa’s invitation doesn’t hold water. We’ve already moved on past that. We’ve qualified for another major tournament with 2 games to spare. Before it was 1 game to spare that shows Rohr’s SuperEagles are improving and the fans are ok with that. Anybody wey Musa invitation dey pain na dia own palava be that.
They should also watch OLISEH comment on U-tube after resignation as super eagle’s coach. He said,we (1994 squad) are d one that we make eagle s to b real super eagle then after they have won matches with much goals. The weaker one we come from bench after d match have won convincelly. WHO ARE D WEAKER ONE?:THEY ARE STILL D ONE SITTING DOWN AT HOME CRITIZE, INSTEAD OF THEM TO GO FOR COACHING COURSES.

Nwobodo is a complete midfielder, rohr should please invite this man, he doesn’t need any switch and he is better than the awaiting switch ing list
Baller Baller from his u17days that dream team. Most of them will make it to the SE gradually and Naija will rule the world. We should dream and hope because impossible is nothing.
This was about two seasons ago when he played for ujpest in slovakia or cech I cant remember which country it is. He moved to turkey and nothing much has been heard about him since then. Is he still playing regularly and giving good performances. If yes, were is the footage to prove it. We all want a good and creative midfielder in the Super Eagles but if obinna is to be considered we need to see clips of him doing the business week in and out for his Turkish club like we see olise, ejaria doing. Like we see moffi, sadiq, onuachu, iheanacho etc doing regularly for their clubs.
Sportsfan you have seen his video why do you have to go the negative way? If you want video anything more YouTube is there the guy is performing rather better and for someone like nwobodo he’ll always be on the upward trend. I didn’t expect that the only contribution you’ll bring is to discredit nwobodo you strange sha. SMH!
Nobody is discrediting anyone. All im asking for is current videos showing he is very much in form. We can find clips on youtube showing the past 10 games played by our strikers and midfielders and how they performed to show that they are very much in form even nwakaili’s videos showcasing his new found form in Alcoron is available on youtube. But im yet to see a single video on obinna scoring or giving an assist since he moved to turkey.
Lets be current. He is a good player but if he is to stand any chance of making it to the National team, his performances (current) must be on full display for all to see.
The answer is yes. He is still a super regular at his club. Esiti and the rest warm the bench while Obinna plays 90 minutes week in week out. I’ve been following him and he hasn’t disappointed. It’s easy enough to look up his club’s lineups this season and you’ll see.
Obinna Nwobodo moved to Goztepe and he has cemented his place in the first team. 27 games in the Premier league at Defensive and central midfield with 2 assists (31 in all comps with 4 assist) in his first season. He is doing very well in his debut season in Turkey.

Nwobodo should, by all means possible, be invited to now.

Guys what do u think about my 23 man squad for next afcon , though I still av my reservation about, kalu & Simon considering d form of simy,Sadiq Umar, moffi,Ike ugbo, being that d former are wingers and we av lookman ,chukweze,Musa and even olise so I dear for both of Dem , but u can never say never with gernot roah manmanegment and having faith with his regular spiders, keeping fingers crossed.
Too many wingers, not enough central defenders, only 2 goalies. Ejaria and olise in my opinion wont both play at the same time for the Super Eagles(for now) except one regular player in the midfield is unavailable. Their switch is still being processed as well. Musa/lookman, choose one or drop both if lookman’s switch isnt still ready. Balogun is injury prone, we need someone who can replace him at any point. Kalu and Simon are still Rohrs favourite but based on current form might have to contend with other players for a place on the wings.
The list still needs some work. Lets see what happens between now and a months time.
Where is Obinna Nwobodo in your line up ? Without his name, your list is incomplete.
Emeka, where’s your 3rd goal keeper. In a 23 man squad there must be 3 goalkeepers
Mehn! Chidera Ejuke may not be scoring too many goals in russia but he definitely schooling players in the russian league on how to dribble players. Hes videos from the current season are similar to chukwueze’s videos. Only difference being he attacks from the left and sammy attacks from the right.
I really had high hopes for this guy in the Super Eagles. I thought he would be a mainstay in the team by now but it hasn’t worked out yet. But there is still time for him. Hopefully he will begin to churn OUT wonderful performances, scoring lots of goals as well and will get a re-invite to the National team.
Super Eagles squad for Afco 2022 in Cameroon,I think must be as follows:- okoye, Uzoho,Noble-Aina,Ebueh,Balogun,Omeuro,William troost,Oboabona,Sanusi,Collins-Ndidi,Aribo,Shehu,Etebo,Iwobi,Ejaria- Ahmed Musa,Samuel Kalu,Chukuweze, Moffi,Osimhen,Onauchu,Iheanachu,Simmy,Sadiq Umar this squad is strong one to win this cup cause of the high quality of thoes players. Then with good depth, pressing and orgnized ball and proper recoveries , passaing precision ,good postioning from the strikers, all of thoes good prepration , good welfare from NFF,encouraging of the spectators will push them (SE) them to win Afco in Cameroon.
@hasaan, did you say Oboabona? This is funny.
