Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr is extremely delighted to see his side beat defending champions, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, in their AFCON 2019 Round of 16 fixture at the Alexandria Stadium on Saturday, reports Completesports.com.
The West Africans edged out Clarence Seedorf’s men 3-2 in a tightly contested encounter at the Alexandria Stadium.
The win eased pressure on Rohr who saw his side went down to a shock 2-0 loss to Madagascar in their last Group B game last Sunday.
Odion Ighalo put Nigeria ahead in the 19th minute after his effort in the box bounced off the legs of Yaya Banana and trickled into the net past Andre Onana.
Stephane Bahoken equalised for Cameroon in the 41st minute, while Clinton N’Jie put the Indomitable Lions ahead two minutes later with a well executed finish past Daniel Akpeyi.
But the Super Eagles fought their way back into the game in similar fashion with two goals in three minutes.
Ighalo completed his brace in the 63rd minute before he played in Iwobi for what would turn out to be a winner by the Arsenal.
“We wanted to avoid this kind of tough game by finishing top of our group, but we could not do that .I am extremely happy with the victory,” Rohr told a news conference after the game.
“We conceded two goals through our lack of concentration. During the halftime break, we spoke about not giving up. We had an advantage over them as we had two days extra rest and we are also used to the pitch.”
The German tactician also spoke about his team’s potential quaterfinal opponent Egypt who are one of the favourites to win the
“We beat them through a spectacular goal last time when we played them in a friendly with Paul Onuachu scoring after seven seconds,” he added
“It will be an interesting game and we will see a full stadium after playing in front of small crowd here in Alexandria. We still have to wait to see who will be our opponents between Egypt and South Africa.”

My coach never give up God is with you
He made a change and it worked did you not see the difference Chukwueze made same with Henry if used. And I still maintain Osimhem is a better option to Onuachu
Onuachu to be replaced by Iheanacho, Awoniyi, Stephen odey..don’t worry… Osimhen’s place is secured.
Hahahahaha…. Have you finally found some fortitude to bear our win…? LMAO
Not even a pat on the back to the rest of the team, the goal scorers or the assist makers… No only your lord naim you see… Which lie lie change e change..? E score abi e make assist….? Or how many key passes or complete forwards passes did he give…?
You and this your overrated tin-gods sef. LMAO
Dr drey rmbr Cameroon has world class coaches in seedorf n kluivert as their coaches yet our mini coach beat them, truly we don’t know what we ve until we loss it..on Samuel starting ? Like I said b4 I will prefer him be a super sub rather than starting cos defenders will be tired when he comes in rather than starting him,in d 1at match u c Hw he easily faded off so I prefer him come in which I believe d coach knows as well
U spoke my mind. Greetings to other people in the forum.I have been reading comments for a while now but it’s nice to finally join u guys. Is these ayphilly and omo9ja the same people that I used to read their comments on kickoffnaija? If they are, longest time buddies!
Yes o @Danny. Omo9ja is now my sparing partner because he doesn’t like Rohr and his tactics that have taken us past the AFCON defending champion. We’re all one and congratulations to the SuperEagles
@Danny, thanks for your love bro. Yes we are. Welcome on board. To be honest I love coach Rohr but his tactics letting him down sometimes.
And also, I don’t think Ayphillydegreat is seeing it that way lol. One love. God bless us all. God bless Nigeria!!!
@Aphilly…Omo9ja has never supported any coach including our team even right from kickoff Nigeria days.. except Dennerby.
Him and Kola US back then.
Dr. Drey abeg help me ask the demi God worshipper if Ighalo and Iwobi the goal scorers look like chukwueze.
@Dr Drey
I’ve always liked your comments but am not with this latest one because I perceive you are not a fan of Chukwueze. You’re shying away from the truth.
One of the things I hate most is lying, I don’t know if you like Chukwueze or not but I think your likeness or dislike for him shouldn’t tamper with your assessment on him. The lad impressed with the chance given to him, he laid 2 clear goal assists but was wasted by the players he gave, would you blame him for that? and he also had a shot as far as I can recall. Let’s stop pulling people down if we want to move up.
No hate bro, I just had to wake u on that, God bless us! #GoEagles
It’s Nigeria vs Rsa
South Africa is next.
the mighty egypt is out with there stupid crowd that watching only their matches, all the matches av watch so far in this matches av been almost empty stadium, thats not good for africa football, even the big nigeria vs cameroun match was almost empty, now the host is out, expect more low spectator. whatever i dnt care, my dear eagle is soaring high n we winning the cup By His Grace, but the SA boys r playing good football, we gat be aware.
Do you remember that Gambian referee that robbed us in SA? It’s pay back time for us.
My naija people i have a confession to make, i think it about time i give this man his credit. He is one lucky coach, siasia with his sexy football never achieve what this man has achieve for the super eagles. So from here on, i will never question his decisions again. Because in life we all need a little bit of luck. Shalom
I congratulate you for your courage and humility to make a u turn and accept the truth. I hope others will follow your example and admit the obvious. Lets be one big family and support our darling Super Eagles, and the coach in good times and difficult times. That is what true fans do.
@tola, ur sins are forgiven. If only others will swallow their pride and follow suit, it shall bs well with them but if they don’t, they’ll continue wallowing in shame just like they did yesterday. God just scattered their evil plans against a man that has achieved so much for this country. I have to mention names, omo9ja, ugo uwenze, Josh, segun odegbami (the ex cricket international), they will continue eating their shit and vomit until the last day of this competition. Imagine omo9ja coming on here now to say he loves rohr, taaaaa!!!! Get outta here!!! He doesn’t need your evil love! Go and show ur Thomas dennerby and sisone love, they need it most and leave Mr rohr alone, mr lover… Evil men!!!
Like. 🙂
I like this contribution from Ikeben.
Nigerian fans usually rely on big names. Names don’t play football.
Cameroon will kill us, Egypt will roast us, Salah a world class player, Morocco, one of the best teams, played better than Nigeria in the world cup, with one of best coach in the continent, Even the world class coach Sedoof and Klaivet, ALL HAVE BOWED out.
Yet we have a coach that is humbly moving Super Eagles forward. Yet the fans are not satisfied. Raining insults upon insult. Many have said, even if he wins Afcon, let him go.
Where in the world will decide the fate of a coach or any staff without using his result. Is that not witch hunting.
They prefer a big name coach that can brag or boast even if the coach does not have result or qualify us for world cup or Afcon, they are okay. As long as he does their wish, invite their preferred players, the result becomes immaterial
Well, they still have to wait for long. Because for the stone builders rejected is still the corner stone.
I knew it was better to loose to Madagascar and still be in the competition than to loose to cameroon and be out. Is it not surprising that the best loosers are beating and sending the group leaders out of competition. And coach Rohr modestly came 2nd but still in the competition. Just like South Africa beat us in Uyo and then couldn’t qualify for the world cup while we moved to another gear from then and never lost a qualifing match.
So Rohr critics and haters don’t criticize prematurely wait till the end of the match or after the tournament to criticize or you will be forced to eat your words. Go Super Eagles, Ride on coach Rohr, even though you aren’t perfect but you sure are on the right path. God bless the Super Eagles of Nigeria
Up eagles
Hahaha ndi mmadu set.where ar those fuking haters of my coach and ighalo.now everybody is happy.rorh is the best plz as Dr drey has asked who is the top scorer of this tournament.
