Cheetahs of Benin Republic head coach Gernot Rohr and a member of the team’s security personnel were assaulted by a Libyan policeman.
According to Benin Football on X, the attack occurred after Monday’s AFCON 2025 qualifier in Tripoli between Benin and Libya.
Following the 0-0 draw, Benin finished second in Group D and qualified for next year’s AFCON alongside Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
According to Benin Football, the Benin Republic players were held in the stadium’s locker room due to concerns over their safety.
It was claimed that they were delayed in the dressing to allow the Libyan fans to leave the stadium and not risk any possible security issue that may arise from some angry fans.

The report added that after they were allowed to leave the stadium, a Libyan policeman assaulted Rohr and the Beninoise’s security official.
In October, Nigerian Super Eagles players were held for more than 10 hours by Libyan authorities before the two countries’ matchday 4 AFCON 2025 qualifiers in Benghazi.
After an investigation by CAF’s Disciplinary Board, Libya was fined $50,000 while the Eagles got three points and three goals.
The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has since appeal the decision by the Disciplinary Board.

If CAF does not ban these imbeciles this time around then FIFA must step in and make an example of these uncouth animals. These people deserve for the whole of sub-Saharan Africa to turn against them and any Northern African countries who are genuinely for peace, love and Pan Africanism are more than welcome to join in – moving forward, we all must be very quick to stand strongly against any BS, in any form that it may present, and not only from one perspective – they are all the same albeit in different complexions – racism, tribalism, caste and classism and every and all forms of nepotism all over God’s good earth!
What a bloody disgrace!
And I should also add at this point that all the above holds true and I stand by it. However, the bit concerning Libya, only if this report about Rohr and his colleague’s incident holds true.
Ban Libya from hosting matches!
Is it until loss of life occurs that the right thing will be done?
For now, going to Libya to play them should be prohibited. It’s just too risky. If you beat them at home, or otherwise incur their wrath, your safety is not guaranteed at all. Imagine a policeman that should be serving and protecting doing the opposite. Attacking the opponent’s coach. If a policeman can descend to that level, imagine what would happen if the team fell into the clutches of angry fans.
