Primoz Roglic says his victory at the Tour de Romandie has set him up perfectly for the Giro d’Italia, which starts this weekend. The Slovenian claimed his third stage win of the six-day when winning Sunday’s time trial, finishing 49 seconds ahead of Rui Costa in the overall standings.
Team Ineos star and current Tour de France holder Geraint Thomas finished third overall, 1 minute and 12 seconds behind the winner. Roglic, who also won the race last year, was delighted with his performance over the six days and is now looking to carry his form into the Giro, which begins in Bologna on Saturday.

“I’m very happy with my third stage victory and my overall victory,” said Roglic after the race. “This victory Is a team achievement; the entire team was fantastic this week. “It shows how much we have grown as a team, and that’s really nice to see. I enjoyed it.
“I hadn’t raced since Tirreno-Adriatico, and I trained at altitude in April. These results have been a bit unexpected, so I’m very satisfied. This was perfect preparation for the Giro.”
