Twenty-five Research and Development Institutes are in Ota, Ogun State for the 2019 RIGAN Games which holds from today – Friday December 13 to 22nd 2019.
The Research Institutes Games Association of Nigeria (RIGAN) comprise of a family of thirty-five (35) Research and Development Institutes under the aegis of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Health, Transport, Education and Environment.
The 1st edition held way back in 1982 with the National Root Crops Research Institutes (NRCRI) Umudike, Umuahia, Abia State as the first host and now the 15th edition in Ota, Ogun State.
RIGAN president, Prof. Rabiu Adamu has confirmed that a total of 25 Research and Development Institutes will be taking part in this year’s RIGAN Games at the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute in Sango-Ota, Ogun State.

According to Professor Adamu of the Ahmadu Bello University, ABU Zaria, over 1500 Athletes will compete in Athletics (Track and Field), Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Tennis, Table Tennis, Squash, Badminton, Draught, Chess and Scrabble. Some 500 officials will serve as Technical personnel.
The cardinal objectives of RIGAN includes: the bringing together of various R &D Institute; through sporting activities; providing recreational interaction, friendship amongst members, achievement of sound mind and body fitness necessary for attaining the set goals for research and development, publicity of R&D Institutes and their respective mandates and discovering talents for possible national assignments in sports.
The 14th edition of the RIGAN Games was hosted in Zaria by NITT in 2015.
