Declan Rice has apologised to his Arsenal teammates and club fans after be was sent off in Saturday’s lunchtime fixture against Brighton at the Emirates.
With Arsenal 1-0 ahead thanks to Kai Havertz first half opener, Rice was shown his yellow card just four minutes into the second half.
The former West Ham captain was adjudged to have deliberatly kicked the ball away despite the referee awarding a free-kick to Brighton.
The visitors capitalised on their numerical advantage and equalised thanks to Joao Pedro.
All efforts by Brighton to find the winner was thwarted as Arsenal held on to earn a point.
“I think from my behalf, that’s my first sending off in my career, so I just wanted to apologise obviously to my teammates, which I’ve done, and to the fans,” Rice was quoted by Arsenal News Central.
“When you get sent off, it’s never nice, you get a sense of guilt over you, and I was lucky today that my teammates really helped me out and we didn’t lose the game. I’ll learn from it.”
Rice would now miss the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur in their next league fixture.
