Franck Ribery looks to have ended speculation about him joining Sheffield United after claiming he wants to operate at the highest level. Last week, sources claimed that Chris Wilder was planning an audacious swoop for the former Bayern Munich winger, who left the Bundesliga champions this summer after 12 glittering years.

The 36-year-old was seen as a potential marquee player for the Blades as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of a return to the Premier League. However, in a recent interview with French outlet L’Equipe, Ribery looks to have ended any hope United had of sealing his signature, saying he is ready for another “great challenge” at a “big club”.
“I’m still hungry and I think I can still give things,” he said. “As long as I think that I have a high level in my head and legs, I’ll go for it. “I’ll never cheat. I can still play for a big club. I want to play for two more seasons. I think I can still handle a great challenge.”
