Hervé Renard has been linked with the vacant coaching job of Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
Following the resignation of Finidi George, who is now Rivers United coach, the Eagles are yet to get a new coach.
The Executive Committee of the NFF in a meeting in June announced that an expatriate Technical Adviser will be hired, following the Eagles’ poor 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
Now, according to footmercato.net the NFF has approached Renard for the vacant Super Eagles coaching job.
Aside the NFF, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has also shown interest in Renard, who currently handles the French women’s team who will feature at this summer’s Olympics in Paris.
Renard was in charge of Zambia’s Chipolopolo when they lost to the Super Eagles in the quarter-finals of the 2010 AFCON.
In his second spell as Zambia’s head coach, he guided them to the AFCON title in 2012 where they defeated a star-studded Côte d’Ivoire side on penalties.
In 2015 he landed his second AFCON title after leading Côte d’Ivoire to defeat Black Stars of Ghana on penalty shootout.
In February 2016, Renard was appointed as the new Atlas Lions of Morocco coach and qualified them to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, their first since 1998.
He led Saudi Arabia to pull one of the biggest shocks in World Cup history following a 2-1 win against Argentina in their opening game of the Qatar 2022.

The Nigerian media should stop playing with the peoples’ emotions.
Renhard is also linked with the Egypt and US national team jobs. Both countries have better administered and professional FAs, have better facilities, can easily afford a $200k pm salary without batting an eyelid, do not have a history of maltreating foreign coaches and while US is already a host of the 2026 WC, Egypt is seated comfortably on the top of its own WCQ group with a 4 point gap and almost assured of a place at the mundial.
Why will Renhard leave these countries and take the SE with Nigeria 5th in its WCQ group and all but dead and buried….?!
God bless you Dr. Drey. We Nigerians are so unreal and sentiments/emotions at times beclouds our reasoning. How on earth will a bunch of criminals who claim they don’t have a budget (money) and as such couldn’t pay Rohr and Peseiro as at when due would now be suddenly have the pay to afford a $180k per month Herve Renard. This is obviously the major blocker. Another odd against us is as mentioned by you already (the fact that it’s almost impossible for us to qualify for the next world cup given our position at the moment).
Abeg, make we dey try dey real abeg and quit living in Alice WonderLand
Well, heard Renard is looking for a new challenge. I think Super Eagles and NFF will give him enough
IF NFF ARE SERIOUS IN GETTING A BETTER COACH THAT KNOWS ABOUT SUPER EAGLE PLAYERS & AFRICAN FOOTBALL, THERE IS NO DEBATE, NO INTERVIEW ABOUT THIS.
HERVE HAVARD- SAMSON SIASIA IS THE ANSWER.
This looks good
I have no doubt in good foreign coaches but the coach have to be extremely good.
Nobody can compare Herve Renard to Paseiro and Oga Rohr. In this regard, Herve Renard is the best to guide our beloved Super Eagles through.
That said, hmm. If NFF can’t get Herve Renard on board because of their corruption then they should consider Siasia for the job.
We don’t want a half baked foreign coach no more period. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
@Omo9ja, your friend Kenneth said (in another post) that we should BEG Finidi to return to the Suoer Eagles (he actually used the word “beg”).
Don’t you think that BEGGING Finidi to return would be our best chance for qualifying for the World Cup?
How can we have a great coach like Finidi (or alternatively, Siasia or Yobo) in our backyard, and we are going to waste money to bring in an Oyibo man?
Nibonimo tu nwa jasi bayi o ahaha. Well in that regard, I think we should go for Salisu instead. That way we won’t bring Finidi or Paseiro back lol. Salisu Yusuf? Hmm. Think about that kę. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
Liar of the highest order. Which post did i ask the NFF to go beg Finidi, well they have said many of you sit behind your gadgets and cook up stories in your head. Please share the link, and i hope its another Kenneth you referring to. Don’t go and rush to use the name to prove your lies
@Kenneth, below are your own words verbatim:

@Peter Ubi, I can understand why you’re in tandem with Mr. Odion’s position but let me tell you, the best for the country, fans and the team is to recall Finidi back to the job EVEN IF THE NFF HAS TO BEG him otherwise, we aren’t gonna qualify for the World Cup.
Hahahahaa……Give a liar just a little time, he will forget all he has previously sung like a hungry canary….LMAOOo
The NFF should beg his Finidi that could not defeat Benin Republic coached by an odinary PE teacher, on a neutral ground….LMAOooo
Make we rest this Finidi matter a beg.
Reinard may not even be as good as Rohr. You guys fail to see how good Rohr is..
I thumb up for the nff herve renard will be good for the super eagles.he Will instill discipline to some of the players that are playing with ego.
But In all honesty this Nigeria we are from is pity full look at the Herve Renard I have been singing singing Singing, Now stories are Nigeria face Uphill task for Herve Renard as USA who have fired thier Coach only yesterday has jumped on him. Egypt also tabled an Offer. This country sucks. If Tabled an offer even before they came online to squash rumors they were approaching Renard we would have Renard now it is when Egypt and USA entered the race they want to table an Offer What kind of person is this Gasau character does he have BRAIN!!!. I mean what is al these??. NA OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Na wa!!! chineke m, I am mind boggled… UNBELIEVABLE
If we lose Renard to either country Calls to sack NFF should be loud. But I know it won’t happen Nigerians are okay with this Mokery afterall they want an indigenous coach!.. Lol Our football is a thing of past as you people are seeing it. Mark My words qe will no longer be super going forward!
I warned of this Nobody will listen this is very sad!..
@Ugo, I think if Nigeria matches the offers tabled by Egypt and USA (and I think they do. Rumors say it is $80K), I think he’d likely pick Nigeria cos if the brighter prospects and potentials.
If the NFF can pull off this coup (hopefully after the Olympics), then I may forgive them for all their past crimes. This guy is a hot cake, wanted by many federations.
Nigeria has brighter prospects than USA and Egypt….?
Are you kidding us…?
We are dead and already placed in a coffin in our WCQ, it remains a backward thinking misadministration from NFF and a draw in Kigali to intere the remains of our 2026 WC aspirations.
USA is hosting the WC in 2026, 7-time AFCON champs Egypt is sitting pretty on top of its group with a healthy 4-point lead…..and you say we have brighter prospects….?
Nigerians overrate themselves too much.
I dont believe Rehnard will want to not be at the next world cup…..its not like we even have the financial muscle and working conditions to outbid US and Eypt

Don’t be fooled by the nff antics..
I won’t be surprised if the recent noise about top coaches is part of the nff baits to create distraction and buy time before they unleash what they are actually cooking.
It’s most likely they already got their coach from the crooked agent.
I can’t be fooled by a bunch of dumbos.
Na so Larry, NFF go likely do us jingbo again
Indeed Larry, I’m also taking this with a pinch of salt.
Not a pinch sef, a tablespoon is more like it.
Until Renard signs a contract, I will continue to give NFF ONIGBESE “BOMBASTIC SIDE EYE” (expression borrowed from Kel).
If this is for real though, I’d be quite happy. Next step would be to start organizing some Grade A friendlies.
Hahahaha @pompei, still looking at the onigebese bunch with a bombastic side eye o as they can’t be trusted with anything.
This news looks too good to be true, nah. Can Nigeria fend off other heavyweight federations jostling for Renard’s signature? Hopefully, the French man doesn’t do a close scrutiny of NFF’s history with past foreign coaches, and he is motivated only by the caliber of players we have, plus the inherent potential to create magic at the WC proper.
If you are Renard…with options to choose between USA, EGYPT and NIGERIA. Yes, your guess is as good as mine!
This is the worst NFF ever.
@Zuka Chris I mean Peseiro Resigned in February we have been begging NFF for Renard since then they had a chance to bring him to some sort of Pre- agreement and sign a pre-agreement contract while he winds down his French W Contract but it is when USA who only fired their coach yesterday NFF want’s to begin bidding who do Nigeria this thing?.. I mean we even had a chance again a few only a few weeks ago when Renard’s interest was alerted NFF instead came out to deny it. only now they are bidding. What sort of thing is that nawa ooo
From the interior plateau to the Atlas – Rulani leaves Sundowns, approached by some top clubs, inks with Wydad but our entitled coaches
sit down de wait for leg- up
May good fire, fire thie NFF leadership for continuously playing with the heart of soccer loving Nigerians! Lack of trust and more manipulative calculations….many Nigerians are already falling for their Acting!!! To want the best for Nigerian soccer is second to their appetite to divert money and other personal Shadow plots!!!

“…Even IF THE NFF HAS TO BEG him otherwise, we aren’t gonna qualify for the World Cup”
That is it above. You said we won’t qualify for the World Cup without Finidi, so the NFF should ensure that they bring him back. You suggested they could even go as far as begging him!
A lot of Nigerians, like omo9ja and Kennet lives in a bobble and a make-believe-
world. l honestly feels very sorry for these kinds of people. They always remind me of a film series that ran on Nigeria television (NTA) in the 70s called “Village Headmaster.” The village headmaster believes that the whole World begins and end in the village where he thinks he is the most educated person in the village and therefore, whatever he says should be taken as is the truth so the illiterate elders and all the village youths should listen and follows him along. Even the headmaster can hardly read himself. Omo9ja, you don’t know anything. The more you stop exposing your ignorance the better you may be valued and appreciated. Kenneth, l still believe that you are better than you portrait yourself to be. Omo9ja, stop dragging us down. Enough is a enough.
Another fraud reloading, Eguavon, Pinnick and Gusau, these axis of evil would do anything for money, let them show us the proof of their conversations with Renard.
This story is not true. Nigeria has to hire a good coach like Peseiro. He can continue with his Afcon success.
