Nigeria Afrobeats artist Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, performed at the 2023 Ballon d’Or award.
This year’s award took place on Monday, 30 October inside the Théâtre du Châtelet.
Rema thrilled the audience with his 2022 hit single “Calm Down”.
The 23-year-old now joins Burna Boy and Davido as top Nigerian artistes who have performed at big football events.
While Davido performed at the closing ceremony of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup, Burna Boy gave a memorable performance prior to the final of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League between Manchester City and Inter Milan.
Rema’s “Calm Down” remix with American singer Selena Gomez peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

It led the U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart for a record-setting 58 weeks until it was surpassed by Tyla’s ‘Water’ on October 21, 2023.
On October 19, 2019, Rema won Next Rated and was nominated for Viewer’s Choice at the 13th edition of The Headies.
He received the Soundcity MVP Awards for the best new artist on January 12, 2020 and on June 15, 2020, Rema was nominated for Best Viewers Choice: International Act at the 2020 BET Awards.
He was nominated for the awards alongside Burna Boy and Wizkid, they were the only Nigerian artists nominated for the 20th edition of the awards.
