Pepe Reina believes new AC Milan coach Marco Giampaolo is already having a positive impact at the club. Giampaolo was confirmed as Gennaro Gattuso’s successor at the San Siro last month, and, although Reina feels it will take time for the Rossoneri to get used to their new manager’s philosophy, he ultimately feels he will prove a success.
“We have to get used to his ideas, but he comes across as an excellent Coach who is clear on what he wants,” Reina told Milan TV. Milan have not played in the Champions League since 2014 and they were kicked out of this season’s Europa League due to violating Financial Fair Play regulations.
Goalkeeper Reina, who is expected to be understudy to Gianluigi Donnarumma once again this season, knows the entire squad will need to be pulling in the right direction if they are to secure a return to Europe’s top table in the near future.
“The identity of the team will be very clear. A great dressing room is needed, with the right mindset,” Reina added. “Egos mustn’t stand in front of the team. Our project starts from that. The dressing room must be united and we all must help each other, honouring the shirt.”
