Liverpool are being linked with a raid on Southampton to sign Alex McCarthy as back-up for current number one Allison Becker. Reports are rife that Klopp is ready to make a fresh approach for long-term target McCarthy, who may jump at a move after losing his place in the side at St Mary’s. McCarthy began the season as Saints’ number one, but lost his place to youngster Angus Gunn and he could struggle to get it back in the new campaign.
The 29-year-old may look for a club where he can play regular first-team football, but the chance to join a club like Liverpool could be too tempting to turn down. Liverpool have raided Southampton on a host of occasions in the past, and it looks as though another swoop could be on the cards for McCarthy.
