It was not the best of starts for host Qatar who suffered a 2-0 defeat against Ecuador in the opening game of the 2022 World Cup.
The result in Group A means Qatar has become the first host nation to suffer defeat in their opening game.
A first half brace from former West Ham United striker, Enner Valencia, secured the win for the South Americans.

With less than five minutes on the clock, Valencia thought he had given Ecuador an early lead.
However, VAR intervened to save Qatar’s blushes, as an Ecuador player’s knee was marginally offside.
But Valencia was not to be denied as he gave his side the lead on 16 minutes from the penalty spot after he was fouled by Qatar keeper.
The 33-year-old doubled his country’s lead on 30 minutes as he headed in a delightful cross from the right.
Meanwhile, the group’s other game will see AFCON winners Senegal take on Netherlands on Monday.

Nigeria don dy look like countries like qatar in terms of standard small small. Very soon we go slide to the level of India if care is not taken. Hahaha. Imagine losing more than six friendlies at a stretch without winning one. Get a coach better than rohr or bring rohr back to finish his assignment. U can’t sell a dog and buy a monkey. Very soon, qualifying for d nation’s cup and world (which rohr Made look very easy with games to spare) would now
be set as targets for any coach coming on board. Ndi “Let us fail with our own” ehe nah, shebi una dy enjoy the game as una dy watch am for telly…hahaha…. Mr ode, the chief ex cricket international wey dy claim legendary status, how far nah, u no to dy write ur usual garbage like before when rohr was around. Wetin happen???? The new coach has lost his entire friendly games and we havent heard from you. But how can u talk when you are one of the benefactors of the current corrupt system in the nff . how much did u get in kick backs 4rm pesero’s first salary???? God will punish aaaaaall of you in due course of time….Nonsense…
God bless you for your forthright thoughts.
Forget about Rohr. Nigeria has no competitive team and it has been evident since the last days of Rohr as his ream struggled against minnows like Central African Republic, Sierra Leone etc.
The SE team need an overhaul. Apart from Osimhen and a couple of others, the entire team should be sacked and younger, hungrier and more determined and committed players ready to die in the pitch while playing on our national colours, should be drafted into team. The Midfield currently is non existent- no decent Defensive midfielder, but worst is that there is no Creative midfielder.
Please spare us all this bullshit about games to spare, if thats the case why is he still be employed. Coaches in the premiership should have been chasing him by now, since he can win big games. I expected chelsea or some of those countries that fired there coaches should have contacted him. And after winning with games to spare, what happens are the tournament proper, shouldn’t that confidence be translated there. Please leave our own, if the free hand given to Rorh can’t be extended to them then who is fouling who. Many big nations are not at the world cup, did you hear any noise about there coaches being fired. But when it comes to naija and there local coaches, no we quick to kick them away with all sorts of excuses. Them fire rorh now, we building all sort of excuses for him. He had 6 years to build a solid team. Westerhof had less than that and gave us a fantastic team. Even after leaving we still had a strong team. But the by products of rorh are nothing to write about
Did you watch the U23, there is a crazy master dribblesr in that team called OmoJesu..Surely the coaches want him to start playing for real Madrid or Barca before calling him to the SE. Yet no player is as skillful as him in the current SE team.
Talent discovery and insisting on household failures has been our bane. It’s time to start dropping some regulars and start capping HUNGRIER players.
