Paris Saint-Germain defender, Sergio Ramos hopes to play at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar with La Furia Roja (Red Fury) of Spain – which would be his fifth World Cup finals appearance if it materialises.
Ramos has been included in Spanish coach, Luis Enrique’s 55-man provisional squad list for the 2022 World Cup. And the 36-year-old who was a key player when Spain won the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, is now eyeing his fifth World Cup appearance in the twilight of his career.
Ramos suffered a nagging injury late in the 2020/21 season at Real Madrid and joined Paris Saint-Germain later in 2021. He seems to be currently playing with full fitness in his second season with the Ligue 1 giants. And it’s his current form that has enticed Spain coach, Luis Enrique.

Ramos expressed his excitement at the prospect of playing in the Qatar 2022 World Cup during a Press Conference ahead of the Paris Saint-Germain vs Juventus Champions League Group H game.
“Everyone knows what it means to defend those colours,” Mundodeportivo quoted Ramos as saying about playing for his country at the World Cup once again.
“I feel good again, I feel prepared, but ultimately it doesn’t depend on me but on Luis Enrique whom I respect a lot. I still have a lot of excitement to return and play in this World Cup. I hope I can be in Qatar.”
Ramos has scored 23 goals in 180 appearances for Spain. He has one assist in 11 French Ligue 1 games so far this season.
Spain are in Group E of the 2022 FIFA World Cup alongside Germany, Costa Rica and Japan.
