Former Premier League referee Mike Dean has slammed the decision to award Portugal a penalty against the Black Stars of Ghana at the ongoing Qatar 2022 World Cup.
Portugal edged Ghana 3-2 in their World Cup opener, with Ronaldo scoring from the spot after going down under a challenge from Mohammed Salisu.
Many viewers disagreed with the decision, thinking Salisu got the ball and that Ronaldo went down easily. And Dean agrees with them.
“The defender clearly plays the ball,” Dean was quoted on the Sun.
“Ronaldo then touches the back of the defender, goes down, instigated contact.
“It’s not the referee’s fault – he’s given the decision on the field of play. The VAR, in my opinion, should have got involved and invited the referee over to have a look at it.”

Dean added: “It’s scary, I have to say. I’m just astounded. I like to back referees all the time but you can’t support stuff like that. You can’t defend the indefensible.
“It should have been overturned. He should have gone to the screen, he should have looked at it.
“There may have been some technical glitch that we don’t know about. I just can’t understand why he wasn’t sent to the screen.
“100 per cent it’s wrong.”
Ghana will hope to put the disappointing result behind them when they face South Korea in their second group game on Monday.

Please leave Ghana issues alone. This is complete sports Nigeria. For weeks I have followed ghanaweb and they don’t write anything about Nigeria except where Nigerian footballers are arrested with drugs or othcr crimes.you are yet to know that ghana/ghanaians hate you deeply and always look for your fall. It is this kind of ignorance that makes us approach matches against Ghana with unseriousnee while they approach them with deep seated hate, rivalry and serious jealousy. All this big brother Nigerian attitude
My guy, stop this nonsense. Nobody in Ghana hate Nigerians. Forget about the healthy rivalry, deep down Ghanaians love our Nigerian brothers and sisters. Tune in to a Ghanaian radio or tv station and you will realise 70% or more of the time it’s Nigerian music or movie showing. As for football rivalry it’s everywhere eg Argentina vs Brazil, England vs Germany etc. If you Nigerians decide to take it cool and you are beaten why cry. Before every Ghana game, you guys talk a lot so it’s just normal that if you lose, there’s some teasing. This does not mean we hate you so stop the baseless criticism of csn. If you are not happy that csn writes about Ghanaian football pls go and set up your own platform.
Yaw he’s not lying the fact that you’re not one of them doesn’t mean he’s lying. What we should be hoping is that Nigerians will stop jumping the border to Ghana so that we can respect ourselves. A lot of us have negative experience in Ghana and almost nobody can dispute this fact but it is well.
What were u doing in Ghana that made u experienced this negativity?
Maybe u were living care free life including being loud and probably ARGUED blindly like u does here!!
Next time when u go to someone’s else country, try and SHUT the hell up and u ll meet nice people!!
Ur charlatanic behavior made Ghanaians hate ur ass lol
If I have known u, I lll fumigate ur nasty face with some LYSOL haha
Next time again, if u go to someone else’s nation to hustle, keep ur DICK in ur pants and i guessed this was ur problem as GHANAIANS PLAYED u like a doormat haha
Wether we like it or not selfmade, yaw and some of brothers from Ghana have made this platform intresting so tuaile for you guys.
I know after this world cup the attention will be shifted to afcon so let the healthy rivalry continue.
You won’t see @Dr.Drey comment on a thread like this because a notably sound and experienced referee came to reiterate what most of us saw on the day of the match. Sometimes, it is good to watch a game objectively and not based on sentiments, because Ghana eliminated a very average, weak and unmotivated Nigeria Super Eagles team not worthy of Qatar 2022 World Cup participation. I was very impressed with the Ghana team but obviously they can up their attacking tempo and momentum a bit more.
Ghanaian players kept motioning and encouraging the referee to go to the monitor but the racist devils we had sitting in the VAR room, that had no African there decided to stick with what was obviously a fallacious decision. Who awards a penalty like that without taking a look at replays? The wickedness not to go and look at the monitor even!
Dr Drey will not comment on a thread like this because there is a reason why Mike Dean was never selected to officiate at even the Euros before….not to talk of the World Cup.
When you think terrible officiating and disastrous sense of judgement in the EPL…think Mike Dean. His terrible sense of judgement is known across the globe.
The worst officiated game in the EPL this season so far has been the Chelsea vs Tottenham game at Stamford Bridge…..and guess who was handling the VAR machines…? Mike Dean.
So Dr.Drey wouldn’t comment on a thread like this where a ref who was kicked out of the VAR room by the English FA earlier this season is ranting….not even when video evidence has already proven that the decision to award that penalty is probably the most on-point decision in this tournament so far.
Did CR7 make contact with the ball before salisu….YES. Check.
Did Salisu make contact with CR7 after the later had made contact with the ball…YES. Check
Did the incident happen in the box….YES. Check
Does the referees handbook state that a penalty should be awarded in such cases….YES. Check.
Anybody who wants to cry can continue to cry.
When the global head of referees Mr Pierluigi Colina comes out to talk and says it wasnt a penalty, then Dr.Drey will comment.
By the way, the Poland vs Saudi Arabia ref awarded a penalty against Poland for a polish defender attempting to jockey a Saudi player to the corner flag…..I’ve been expecting you to come singing another song of fallacy here on how FIFA is filled with Nazi sympathizers and hates Poland….LMAOoo. I’m sure if Poland where to be an African country, you would have been here telling us how fifa hates Africa and gone on as far back as 1990 to look for non existent examples to back up your fallacy.
@Dr.Drey… You are wrong here. Salisu knicked that ball ahead of Ronaldo. Go watch that replay properly.

Btw I understand if ur eyes has been destroyed because u gulped too much of GARI without milk or mido when u were kid and therefore I can’t push u haha
Thank you very much.
Video evidences do not lie.
No matter the mass or density of banks you swallow on this matter without drinking water it wouldn’t change what is contained in the video evidences and replays of the said incidence.
When your answers to the above questions are No….kindly let us know.
Your defenders should continue to be unintelligent in the penalty box. Intelligent strikers like CR7 will continue to have them for dessert….LMAOoo
Gbam!
Well said Brotherman Dr Drey. Ghanaians are sour losers.
Doctor
That’s why there’s VAR for a reason
This is clearly a biased and preplanned acts by the referee and the var team to cheat us simply because we are Africans and they have no or little respect for us!
If this incidence have happened a decade or two, I wldnt have blamed the referee for be passive about the issue but the mere fact that, he ignored the pleads of the players to go and consult the var for a clear verdict on the issue shows his intent from the jump that, he wanted to give the penalty to cee Ronaldo regardless of what var says!
Am pained becasue we did the same to South Africa and in life whatever goes around, definitely comes around but we have to be objective in our dealings
Doc, I have nothing but respect for u tho
Have a GREAT DAY my bro
