The Atlas Lions of Morocco equaled the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s World Cup feat, following their 2-1 win against Canada in Thursday’s final group game at the ongoing tournament in Qatar.
Morocco’s win against Canada means they finish top in Group F after recording two victories and a draw.
It is the second time Morocco will end a World Cup group stage as leaders, they first achieved it at the 1986 edition in Mexico.
Despite being drawn with England, Portugal and Poland, Morocco came out tops and progressed into the round of 16 where they lost 1-0 to Germany.
The Super Eagles topped a group that had Argentina, Bulgaria and Greece at their debut appearance at USA 1994.
The Eagles repeated the feat at France 1998 as they were group winners ahead of Paraguay (who were second), Spain and Bulgaria.
Meanwhile, Morocco will face Spain in the round of 16 in Qatar.

FLASHBACK !!!
SOMETIMES IF I SEE THE LINE-UP PICTURES OF USA ’94 SUPER EAGLE SQUAD, IT ALWAYS GIVE ME JOY.
***WHAT A GOOD SQUAD !
***WHAT A GOOD TEAM !!
***WHAT A GOOD 22 PLAYERS !!!
Yea, that team were skillful, committed, determined and very physically and mentally fit- feared no foe. Inexperience cost them against Italy, who got to the finals at USA94, being their 1st World cup experience.
The current SE are very unfit- lack strenght and stamina- and weak physically and mentally.
Nigeria’s absence at the world cup is the creation of some of the ex-footballers, section of Nigerian fans and the Amaju Pinnick led NFF. The incessant harassment of Gernot Rohr has created this disaster . They should cover their faces in shame. It is so annoying when decision makers base their decision on style play rather than statistics.
Mr. Augustine Eguavoen, Mr. Sunday Oliseh, Mr. Finidi George, Mr. Emmanuel Amunike amongst others. A bunch of achievers.
Nigeria’s finest!
When men were men.
This picture was taken before the game against Bulgaria, a team that beat almighty France with Zidane, Karembeu, Desailly, Dugary, Petit, Djokaeff etc to World Cup ticket,
Yet, Bulgaria were beaten 3 goals to 0. Thanks to Stoijckov free kick goal that was ruled out when Letkov was caught offside.
Looking at this line up, The likes of former regulars like Keshi, Okafor, Iroha, Adepoju, Okocha, Ezeugo etc are missing. That is to show how complete this team was.
-They were beaten by the eventual finalists ITALY
-They ended Maradona’s football Career because he had to add some substance to match up the strengths of our players
-Bulgaria later got to the Semifinal and came fourth.
But so sad that most players from this good looking team are now part the problems our present football is facing. So sad.
No, it wasn’t.
Michael Emenalo did not start the game against Bulgaria. Benedict Iroha started that first game, copped an injury and did not play any further part.
@Tony, You are very right, ….The team was against Argentina .
