Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri is set to be out of action for a while with a calf issue. Swiss international Shaqiri returned to Melwood for the start of pre-season training on Monday following his summer break but reported back to the club with an injury.

He was further assessed by the club’s medical staff as they checked out the problem which he suffered while on international duty in the Nations League third-place play-off match against England. The medical reports diagnosed him with a tear in his calf, meaning he could be set to miss the whole of pre-season and potentially the start of the new Premier League campaign on August 9 as the Reds host promoted Norwich City at Anfield.
“Shaq is still injured from the national team and it will take a while until he is in again,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com. “He has a tear in his calf, so he will not be involved for a while.”
