Former Arsenal star Adrian Clarke has described Danish-born Nigerian forward Chido Obi-Martin who plays for the Gunners’ youth side as an unreal talent.
Obi-Martin hit the headlines last Saturday after netting 10 goals in the Gunners U16 team’s 14-3 thrashing of Liverpool.
The 15-year-old is already a regular for the club’s U18 side, and made his UEFA Youth League debut earlier this season, but stunned team-mates and opposition alike with his 10-goal haul on Saturday.
Speaking on the Handbrake Off Podcast, Clarke praised Obi-Martin and his Arsenal academy teammate.
“I saw some clips and I saw some goals of Chido Obi-Martin and of Max Dowman and I was like wow, ok, they look unreal,” Clarke said.
“It is exciting, there’s a long way to go for these young players, but the talent of these young kids is frightening. Things can level up quickly so we shouldn’t get too excited with these two, but from what I saw in this highlight reel it was very, very special. I’ve never seen a 13-year-old playing in the U18s in the way Dowman has or playing three years up, it’s just phenomenal.”
Eligible to represent Denmark, England and Nigeria at international level, Obi made five appearances in late 2022 for Denmark’s under-16 side.
He later switched allegiance to England and representing them twice at under-16 level in February 2023.
