The Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF) has imposed a fine of €9,283 on Bahçeşehir Koleji point guard, Şehmus Hazer, for his absence from the national team’s training camp on June 24, 2024.
In a statement posted on its official website, the TBF explained that Hazer’s actions violated the federation’s regulations, leading to the penalty in accordance with articles 37/1 and 37/5 of the Basketball Disciplinary Instructions.

“Basketball player Şehmus Hazer has been fined 350,000.00 TL for failing to attend the Men’s National Team camp, which began in Istanbul on June 24, 2024, as per articles 37/1 and 37/5 of the Basketball Disciplinary Instructions,” the federation’s statement read.
Notably, Hazer’s absence coincided with his inclusion in one of the Sacramento Kings’ rosters for the 2024 California Classic, a series of Summer League games featuring NBA teams. This roster announcement came just ten days after the national team’s camp commenced.
Turkey’s national team played two friendly matches over the summer but did not participate in any international tournaments. The first game, held on June 27, resulted in an 84-73 victory over the Philippines, while the second, on July 3, saw a 46-96 loss to France. Hazer’s participation in the California Classic likely conflicted with the second game.
Hazer averaged 3.7 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 2 assists in three games with the Kings during the California Classic.
This is not the first time the TBF has taken disciplinary action for missed training camps. Last summer, players Shane Larkin and Scottie Wilbekin were fined for their absence from the national team’s camp, despite citing injuries at the time.
