Nigeria’s number one citizen, President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the D’Tigress for retaining their Afrobasket crown following a hard fought 60-55 win against hosts Senegal in the final of the competition on Sunday at the Dakar Arena, reports Completesports.com.
The Nigerian Ladies battled hard to secure victory against the hosts who were cheered on by 15,000 fans inside the Dakar Arena.
The Otis Hughley’s side, with the win, have now extended their head-to-head record over Senegal to 6-4 in 10 clashes, and incidentally have now beaten them in two successive Afrobasket finals.
It was also the second time the D’Tigress won the continental title back to back after first recording the feat at the 2003 and 2005 editions.
A delighted President Buhari took to the Social Media to celebrate the team following their successful outing in the competition.
“Congratulations, @DtigressNG. African Champions again! You have risen to the occasion, and conquered the continent one more time. We are very proud of what you have accomplished. The entire country rejoices with you,” reads a Tweet on the President Buhari’s official Twitter handle.
