New signing Gabriel Jesus scored 90 seconds into his first Arsenal game as his double helped the Gunners to a 5-3 comeback win over German second division side FC Nurnberg in Friday’s pre-season game.
Jesus, who completed a £45m move from Manchester City earlier in this summer transfer window, came on at half-time with the Gunners 2-0 down – and made an immediate impact, scoring high in the net from Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ pass.
Egyptian midfielder Mohammed Elneny then hit a wonder-strike to make it 2-2 before two Nurnburg own goals from Christpher Schindler and Tim Handwerker gave the Gunners a 4-2 advantage.
Jesus then finished Gabriel Martinelli’s cross at the front post with 15 minutes to go to add a fifth for Arsenal, just after Lukas Schleimer pulled one back for the German side.
Arteta named a strong starting line-up for this pre-season outing, with Emile Smith Rowe, Nicolas Pepe and Kieran Tierney among the starters – but their warm-up game fell into disaster.

Johannes Geis and Kwadwo Duah scored past new Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner in the space of five first-half minutes to stun the Premier League side.
Arsenal are likely to welcome back their international players – including Bukayo Saka, Aaron Ramsdale and Martin Odegaard – next week before their tour of the United States.
Jesus began his career at Palmeiras. He was voted the best newcomer of the 2015 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, a year in which he also helped his team win the Copa do Brasil.
The following year he was named the player of the season as Palmeiras won their first national league title in 22 years.
He joined Manchester City in January 2017 for a transfer fee of €32 million, and won the Premier League in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022, the EFL Cup in 2018, 2020 and 2021, and the FA Cup in 2019.
After winning 21 caps and scoring seven goals at youth level, including reaching the final of the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup and winning an Olympic gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Jesus made his senior debut for Brazil in September 2016, and was part of the squad that took part at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, later also participating at the Copa América in 2019 and 2021, winning the former tournament.
