Coach Daryl Powell claims Castleford’s opening 20-4 win against Catalans Dragons is a “good platform” for their Super League ambitions. Prolific winger Greg Eden and man-of-the-match Paul McShane crossed in the first period to give the Tigers a 12-0 half-time lead.
The lead was extended when McShane kicked his third goal of the night, before Lewis Tierney got the Dragons off the mark with a try 15 minutes from time.
However, Eden wrapped up a comprehensive win when he dived over for his second try of the game late on.

It was a good start for the 2017 Regular Season Shield winners, but Powell is confident that his players have a lot more in the tank.
He said: “It was a good win for us. We defended outstandingly well and our attitude was great. “It was a really pleasing performance. We’ve been the most consistent team over the last two years statistically – we’ve won 75% of our games which is a pretty awesome effort. “Obviously we want to win something. Tonight has given us a good platform. Clearly we’ll improve as we work through the season.”
