Wigan Warriors hooker Sam Powell admits he is relishing facing St Helens and is expecting a huge atmosphere. Arguably the biggest rivalry in Super League sees its latest instalment take place at Saints’ Totally Wicked Stadium on Friday for a match between first and fourth.
Justin Holbrook’s side could extend their lead to ten points over Warrington, while Adrian Lam’s Wigan are two points behind Hull FC, who occupy third. Despite the home, side looking likely to win and at the very least take the League Leaders’ Shield, Powell believes Wigan have a chance and has evoked memories of previous clashes.
“Some good memories getting some good wins here, also some disappointing times where we’ve lost it right at the death. It’s going to be electric on Friday and one I’m really looking forward to,” he said.
“In 2016 I scored a try here [Totally Wicked Stadium], it was definitely a great feeling and coming away from it I thought I’d played really well. The back end of last year also, when Lockers [O’Loughlin] scored that try, some great memories have come in this game.”
