Super Falcons star Ashleigh Plumptre believes Leicester women’s team can avoid relegation due to the fact that they have their destiny in their own hands.
After consecutive defeats to Arsenal and Chelsea, City return back to King Power Stadium for the last time this season to face off against West Ham this weekend.
Should results go their way, Leicester could secure WSL status for another year on Sunday afternoon.
Leicester, on 13 points, are 11th in the 12-team league table.
Also, they are two points from bottom club Reading.
Ahead of the crucial fixture, Plumptre is looking forward to the challenge.
“We’ve got ourselves into a good position,” Plumptre.
“At Christmas, a lot of people counted us out, but we kept the trust to get the results we needed to put us in the position we’re in now.
“It would be nice to know come the end of the week that we’re safe, but to be honest we’ve just been focusing on the West Ham game. We have an internal points target to reach and we want to get the points ourselves rather than hope that others don’t get them.
“A lot of it comes down to our mentality and good culture within the Club to achieve what we have since Willie [Kirk] has come in. We’ve all had a collective shift in how we believe we can play and as a result, we’re picking up valuable points.
“A lot of people underestimated us, and I understand it’s a result driven business and when we hit Christmas with zero points, we knew it would be tough. But we didn’t focus on other people or what they were saying, and it’s showed that it’s worked.”
