Trainer David Pipe says Umbrigado could feature in next month’s Grand National meeting at Aintree. The John White & Anne Underhill-owned Umbrigado is unbeaten in three starts under rules, with the first victory coming in the Marston’s Brewed In Burton Standard Open NH Flat Race at Uttoxeter in November.

Pipe’s charge then scored at Southwell in a maiden hurdle before beating Ask Dillon by two-and-a-quarter lengths in the GG Tips ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle at Exeter last month. Connections decided to swerve the Cheltenham Festival but Umbrigado is being lined up for a higher test at Aintree in April.
“Umbrigado was impressive in his bumper and last time at Exeter,” Pipe told Sky Sports. “He’s a horse we’ve thought a lot of and he’s going to have to step up again, but he warrants taking his chance in a better race. “He might go up to Aintree, because he missed Cheltenham. He’ll be entered in the two and the two-and-a-half-mile novice hurdles.”
