President of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick says Victor Osimhen is eager to play for Serie A side Napoli, reports Completesports.com.
Pinnick has however backed the young forward to match the achievements of club legend Diego Maradona.
Osimhen is on the verge of linking up with Napoli from Ligue 1 club Lille in what is expected to be the most expensive transfer involving an African player.
Maradona joined Napoli from Barcelona in 1984 and in his time there he elevated the team to the most successful era in its history.

The talented midfielder , who won multiple titles with the Blues scored 81 goals in 188 league appearances.
“I just heard from Osimhen. He told me; President, I am happy. I will make Napoli proud,” Pinnick told SSC Napoli News.
“Osimhen represents an excellent purchase for Napoli. Naples is a proud city and he is a boy who represents Nigeria, he is an excellent footballer. He has made the right choice and will always give his best.”
“He can reach great goals with Napoli and match the historical deeds of Maradona. I heard from him, he said he will make Naples proud, he is very excited. It will be a new challenge for him in a big club, trust him and he will reach the most important goals with the team.“
“I will come to Naples to see Victor play. He can stay in Naples for a long time. The investment is right because he can grow so much and Napoli believe in his potential. I was in Naples a few years ago, the city is beautiful. I will be happy to return to see the matches.”

Respected journalist Oma Akatugba also confirmed talks between Pinnick and Osimhen.
“I am in daily contact with Victor. He said the same words to the President of the Nigerian federation, he wants to improve what he has done with Lille, will do his best, he wants to make sure that he can compete with Milan, Inter, Juve to win the championship,” Akatugba was quoted by SSC Napoli News.
“There is a concrete possibility that the official announcement will arrive tonight. Yesterday there was a meeting between the parties, but it has not yet led to the conclusion of the deal. It lasted until the late. Therefore it has been postponed to today.“
Osimhen scored 18 goals and recorded six assists in 38 games across all competitions for Lille last season.

Mr editor he didn’t play 38 league matches because the league was cancelled because of covid 19
You that wants to correct the editor …you did not read well…he said across all competition… Which include league, champions leagues ,league cup and FA cup in France .. OK
This comparison is way too much, Osihmen should be himself and confident that’s all that matters and he will make his own name that one day people will say the new Osihmen or Osihmen Junior.
Osimhen is a big deal now. Like very big institution, everybody wants to be a part of him. What matter generally is Osimhen should remain focus and let God take control.
Everytime Pinnick opens his mouth, rubbish comes out. Why put extra pressure on the young man’s shoulders? How is he going to match maradona? He always wants to be in the news
