The quartet of Oghenekaro Etebo Tyronne Ebuehi, Paul Onuachu and Olisa Ndah are making a return to the team.

No IGHALO and AHMED MUSA for the FRIENDLY???
WTF!!!
You must be joking @Monkey..So if you are the coach you will include Musa at the expense of who in the forward list?
GREENTURF haba!
You of all people should know that we need 1 or 2 EXPERIENCE LEGS to FACE this EXPERIENCE TEAM like PORTUGAL…
If PORTUGAL will include an EXPERIENCE LEGS like PEPE and CR7 then you should know that they serious with this FRIENDLY..
The team is not lacking in experience I’m afraid.A good number of them have world cup experience and are playing regularly in the top 5 European football.
The two players you mentioned are not in form at the moment. One of them the captain of the super eagles isn’t a regular for his club in Turkey,so on current form the don’t deserve to be part of the team, not at the moment.
@GREENTURF we are talking real long TERM SUPER EAGLES EXPERIENCE.. not just EXPERIENCE from 5 or 6 SE GAMES…..
And apart from OSIMHEN couple with 1 or 2, almost all of them are not SE MATERIAL
INFACT, TO BE SINCERE TO OURSELVES ,WE DON’T NEED THE EXPERIENCE OF IGHALO, MUSA , BALOGUN IN SUPER EAGLE AGAIN. AGE IS NOT AT THERE SIDE AGAIN. LET TELL OURSELVES TRUTH, IN NIGERIA, IF YOU ARE OLD, YOU ARE OLD.
** IN AFCON 2000,2006,2010,2019, WHAT IS THE IMPACT OF AMOKACHI(2000),OKOCHA(2006),KANU(2010), MIKEL(2019) IN THE TEAM THEN, THEY ARE ALL TIRED LEGS.
*** IGHALO- MUSA- BALOGUNÑ, SHOULD ANNOUNCED THEIR RETIREMENT IN SUPER EAGLE NOW BEFORE THEY WILL BE BENCHED AND EMBARRASSED BY YOUNG PLAYERS.***
Bros, Sorry o I don’t normally make comments on this forum but please stop this age calling stuff about any player. Football knows no age whether too young or too old, you should play as long as you are actively able to. Gavi, Pedri, Gnoto, Camavinga, Fati are all below 20 years and plays for their countries as do Thiago Silva, Dani Alves, Bonucci, Ronaldo, Moutinho, Benzema, Pepe,Modric who are all over 33 years. Leon Balogun will still be playing in the u23 if he was born in Nigeria, so stop all this age calling my guy, age no dey play football.
@Sam it is not about age he is referring to he is referring to dead legs. You mention Thiago Silva, Benzema and co. Benzema just recieved ballon do’ or can any of the 35+ year old players we enforce on Super Eagles play in a top level team in Big 5 leagues, talkless of win Ballon do r. Let us know how to make points. Some people who say France use Benzema as justification for Musa is something that make me laugh in French
THANK you my BROTHER @SAM
AGE has nothing to do with FOOTBALL..
This is FACT that most FANS FAIL to UNDERSTAND
Onyedika dropped!
Al hassan ignored again!
Awoniyi dropped for Dennis!!!
Dennis plays multiple roles,Awoniyi predominantly is a striker. In my opinion Awoniyi still a very much part of the team I think with the form of Onuachu at the moment,he probably wants to see the later from close range.
Greenturf u get brain jare .dis Larry brain just blur nii … who awoniyi wan bench for the striker role. But Dennis fit play wing role. So that’s the reason he dropped awoniyi. And the list is fair enough. God help the team
@GREENTURF haba!

Pepe plays in the champions league,Ronaldo plays for Manchester United both are active members of their clubs so deserves their place or inclusion.
Trusted solders syndrome has started crippling into this new coach’s head…..We need fresh blood in that midfield……we need energy and technicality in that midfield…..but guess what?….Etebo?…Etebo can not play top level football again and it’s clear for all to see…… This days some dudes just hook up to any club and boom they are called into the national team while others have to hug the headline continuously and still wait for their time….. how can you drop Onyedika and Yusuf alhassan with their recent form in the Belgian league and champions league?……Antwarp are high fliers this season and alhassan is the main reason things have worked for them in midfield…..Brugge is in the knockout stage of the almighty UCL and Onyedika played a part in the whole story so far…….If pieserio listens to those greedy and heartless coaches sorrounding him then am afraid we should not even dream of going anywhere with SE…. So sad
One of the best assembly of super Eagles players. Great job PESEIRO for making the big calls.
What of ola Aina, chidozie Awaziem, zaidu Sandi, Leon Balogun
Aina and Sanusi are injured.
@Greenturrf, are you in support of dropping Awoniyi who has scored 3 goals from 4 starts in a highly competitive league for Dennis who is struggling in the same team or Onuachu who has found it difficult to convince teams that he is good enough for top leages.
The coach could as well consider Iheanacho if he needed benchearmers with multiple options.
Dropping Awoniyi for Onuachu or Dennis lacks merit.
Awoniyi just like Onuachu are yet to put their foot right as super eagles strikers.
Both have struggled to convince.
But let’s look at it from Peseiro’s views,Onuachu is on fire at the moment he has worked with Awoniyi he knows his strengths and weaknesses and I don’t think Awoniyi took his chances, the likes of Terem Moffi was great hence his recall. So it’s left for Onuachu to convince the new coach who careless of his poor show in the past that he deserves to be part of the team going forward.
Nice one but no onyedika
Where are the how can Rohr invite only 5 midfielders yen yen yen yen people…???
Oya carry your machetes and go an behead Peserio now.
Wetin come happen oga, why he dey pain you, your boss never submit his CV yet, abi una dey find better grammer to use. Abeg leave the new coach and focus on your rubbish master than can’t even find job in europe
Hahahahaha. Okponu, oya start convulsing like you used to convulse before when you see only 5 midfielders in super eagles…..LMAOoo.
Awon eranko lasan lasan.
My rubbish master is still being paid $45000 every month by the NFF. Who needs a job with that kind of gift…? He’s not desperate for just any type of job like you and your masters who sent your likes here to come and growl like rabied wolves at another man’s job, only to fail woefully and drag our football 40 years backwards…..LMAOoo.
Ngwa start biting trees now that Peserio too has stuck to the same 5 man midfield na….LMAOoo
I wonder why he keeps bringing in rohr as if rohr is tge biggest thing to happen to Nigerian football. We can as well start talking about westerhof or nonfrere joss
Hahahaha…..as if we dont talk about them….LMAOooo.
But it seems the name Rohr always hits differently…..LMAOoo. Are all the lies you told then beginning to haunt and hurt you….? LMAOooo
Because it seems every mention of Rohr always brings back the horror and sadness of the lies you told, the injustices and unfair treatments you metted to ease him out…..LMAOooo.
Unfortunately, almost everything you crucified him for is what is still being replicated now……LMAOooo.
Imagine, you got disgraced at an AFCON you were primed to win or at least finish on the podium, got dumped out of the WC by the worst Ghana team in 40 years and lost $20m only to come back to status quo ante…….LMAOoo.
Oya make una begin bark at the coach for including only 5 midfielders in the list like before na…..LMAoooo
Oga…stop this Rohr thing…it’s normal to sack a coach. Yes, i was also a Rohr supporter, and i believed he was wrongly sacked. However, I;m Nigerian and not “Rohrian” or whatever. We’ve got to move on (Especially you and Monkeypost). You don’t have to always come here to prove a point or channel any arguement toward Rohr. Also, that SE team at the last Afcon was not “primed” to win that tournament, our best would have been semi-final or runner-up. There was no way that team would have won that Afcon ahead of Senegal.
Hhahahaha, you were not primed to win AFCON…?? So what happened to “any coach can win AFCON with this players in 2 weeks”….? Where was that confidence coming from…? Could Beninoise or Togolese or even Ghanaians say that about their own teams. Could South Africans, or Tunisians or Morrocans say that about their teams…?
Even your big mouthed sports minister insisted that winning the AFCON was the target that must be set for Rohr and not a semifinals target. Please where was the confidence to demand such coming from if the team wasnt good enough to achieve it….??
Why was Rohr hurriedly sacked and disposed off before afcon if not because they knew it would be difficult to do so after afcon, because they knew deep down in them he was definitely pull the chestnut out of the fire and make it impossible to justify a sack…???
Its not a matter of being a Rohrian or whatever you chose to call it, If inviting 5 midfielders was a sin under Rohr that made many of these animals gnash their teeth back then…..has it suddenly become acceptable now…..LMAOOoo..???
Maybe they gnashed their rotten teeth too hard back then that they’ve lost it all now…..LMAOoo.
Yes, Rohr came and is gone, and life goes on, but the disgrace these useless bunch have brought our football will take a while to simmer off.
Imagine we were booted out of AFCON by the worst tunisian team since the 90s and also wouldnt be at the world cup thanks to the worst ghanian team in 40 years……LMAOooo…..that’s how low we sunk because of some useless people’s (whom God will not stop punishing) collective stupidity…..LMAooo. The careers of most of these our footballers would have been lifted further by mere playing at this world cup.
We will keep mentioning Rohr’s name here whether is pains them or not……LMAOoo. Everything that was a sin under Rohr but no longer a sin anymore will continue to be pointed out to them so that we can rub in more pepper on those wounds that will never get healed…..LMAOooo
You should know he is seeking cheap publicity, and CSN is giving him that avenue. He can burn down is Tv since his old cargo is out of work, You can buy new TV when Rorh is considered for the job again, oga go get busy abeg
@OMOESAN I want to specially THANK you for SPOTING out all those who are DIRECTLY or INDIRECTLY involved in TRIBAL BIGOTRY..
I hate them with PASSION.
And to think that we are always complaining of RACISM out there?
And we have BROTHERS right here HATING on each other based on their REGION?
Mehn…You are an INTELLIGENT MIND..YOU should be a LAWYER or in the POLICE FORCE…
You just EARN my RESPECT and @GREENTURF just lost mine..
Well said Brodaman Christian Ministries. Rohr this, Rohr that,,, it is far better to ignore some disgusting comments on this platform. Na so so Rohr handbags full the place. Rubbish. No be only Rohr,,, what of Festus Onigbinde. Some people just like to vomit raw sewage.
I am surprised. Sacking a coach is part of the game. I wonder why he is so bitter about this. Rohr is not more important than SE and Nigeria. I think the best is for us to ignore his rohr stories. I believe he is even happy that we lost at afcon. He will be praying we lose against Portugal so that he can continue to make noise about the sack of rohr.
Hahahahaha….it is paining them….LMAOoo
Oya you guys should bark about the invitation of only 5 midfielders like before na…..LMAoooo
Or about how 10 centre forwards have not been called up into a 23 man squad……LMAoooo.
I dont need to pray for Nigeria to lose, I never will. But with people like your bunch who dont use their heads around, who needs to pray for a loss…..??? LMAOooo. Progress and success will be a bridge too far.
Next time when people like us talk….even if it is raw sewage we vomit….LMAOOOo… you sit your asses down, keep your gut shut, listen attentively and process it accordingly.
How can Rohr invite only 5 midfielders yen yen yen yen…..LMAOOo….Oya bark at Peserio too now na….LMAooo..or carry your machetes and go an behead him……LMAOoooo.
That was how they requested for change until buhari made sure they dont have change in their pockets anymore…..LMAOooo
Thumbs up brotherman Xtian Ministries of Nigeria. Rohr is past. Let’s call a spade a spade, he wasn’t all that special anyway. He is Belmadi’s Boy. Don’t waste your time with people who just come here to vomit raw sewage.
A more balanced selection could have replaced one defender with a midfielder in the mold of Al-hassan or Onyedika..
However, it’s too early to criticize him.
@Monkey,the post above is my response to your question above
Balanced and fair list. Only surprised that Alhassan Yusuf still hasn’t got a look in. Maybe sometime soon..
No core northerner in the team for the first time ever. Quota system is beninging to crumble. Merit beninging to show up and I am beninging to smile.
Pinnick is no longer in charge.Certain players are forced on the coach by Pinnick.
A new sheriff is in town.Henceforth merit will be the order of the day.
@Greenturf, I have always liked most of your comments but on this particular one, I’m afraid, I beg to disagree.
@Paul sounded happy that there’s no core northerner in the team and I say that isn’t anything to be happy about. I don’t know when core northerners stopped being Nigerians just because some people’s ethnic biases. Everyone of those guys merited their invites when they started getting call-ups. Zaidu Sanusi, Jamilu Collins, Shehu Abdullahi, Ahmed Musa et al got their invites on merit and have so far served Nigeria well, so where did the myopic thought of quota system emanate from?
@Greenturf, your assertion that Pinnick(a Delta man)forced these guys (Northerners)on the coaches leaves much to be desired.
If quota system was the basis for their invitations is it not now that a core Northerner is NFF Chairman that their invitations should be enforced?
Sanusi and Collins aren’t available for selection due to injuries while Captain Ahmed Musa just returned from injury and hasn’t garnered enough game time to merit a place. I don’t know much about Shehu since he left Cyprus but at the moment the selected guys in right back and midfield deserve a place ahead of him.
Please let’s shun ethnic and tribal bigotry in this forum.
Se na today. Once a ethnic bigot always an ethnic bigot. he will come back here apologizing thats not what he meant. shioor
@Omoesan,If you know me you will apologize for tagging me a tribalist.Im a detribalised Nigerian.
I have worked with Nigerians,Yoruba,South south,Northerners both men and women I am not sectional choosing people to work with.
Pinnick said he influenced the invitation of certain players against the coaches will.It was Pinnick who said that, besides I didn’t mention Sanusi I’m not stupid he’s having a great season.
Please do not put words in my mouth.
Unfortunately there’s nothing to apologize about here. Like I said in my post, I have always admired your comments and contributions on this forum, but your response to @Pauls comments leaves much to be desired from you.
@Paul’s comments oozed tribal bigotry all over it and the next post we saw was that of @Greenturf, lending credence to that type of post. I know you too well on this forum and I never expected that comment from you, hence my disappointment.
Nobody put words in your mouth dear brother, I suggest you read the posts again starting from @Paul’s comments and your response to it. Read with a clear and open mind this time around and you will surely realize that you goofed.
If there’s anyone that deserves an apology, it is the detribalized forumites on this forum and those northerners whose images were maligned by @Paul’s post and your response.
You’re the one who is tribal tagging Pinnick (Delta)and putting words in my mouth about northern players I didn’t mention any region in my post.
What I said was Pinnick influenced the invitation of a few players I was quoting him.
Got nothing to do with tribe this tribe thing don’t even come to mind not someone like me,never has.
@Omoesan I know what I posted I never mentioned tribe.
If you read my post then you should know I was the one always defending invitation of Shehu Abdullahi on this forum in fact I was his biggest fan,so I should have tagged everyone against his invitation a tribalist.
In one of my post on this article I listed Sanusi as one of our better players.
I’m really sad and disappointed.
You guys are too quick to call someone a tribalist when you don’t even know them. Its easy to type and send shit
@Greenturf; of course you know what you posted, but you pretend not to know the implication of what you posted as it concerns the initial post from @Paul that oozed ethnic bigotry all over.
You don’t have to mention names brother, we know who the core northerners in the SE are, so let’s just end this matter.
I have always rated you so highly but you’re beginning to disappoint some of your admirers lately.
Just few weeks ago when you did something similar, I said no, this can’t be Greenturf, his account must have been cloned, and then you came back apologizing to all forumites. How wrong I was! Interestingly I never labeled you an ethnicist in any of my post, but your very own post labeled you as such.
I know you too well @Greenturf, so don’t pretend not to know the meaning and implication of your response to that @Paul’s post that maligned northerners. You’re way smarter than that.
I rest my case.
This is incredibly ridiculous!I have read my post several times despite my busy schedule I can’t understand how I have picked on a particular tribe.@Paul mentioned about no more core northerner. He mentioned merit beginning to set in the team which I supported because I knew Pinnick said he influenced a particular player who was clubless to play in the world cup so I should support an administrator who could do that? Meritocracy is what we need in the new administration which I uphold in my response.Your accusation were wrong absolutely wrong.
Fantastic, great job Jose Peserio. This coach looks serious. This list is perfect and a true reflection of our best legs currently across the globe. I Wish SE all the best. I predict a score draw.
Emmanuel Dennis? Ahhh okay o!
I think every SE fan is saying the same thing, although Dennis always surprises.
I would have preferred Onyedika instead of Frank…..Dude was impressive in the champions league and a better understudy to Ndidi..
From what we saw in our last friendlies against Algeria,I don’t think Onyedika is ready,at least not yet.
The 5 midfielders selected are the best and most experience we can boast of today.
Well said Brodaman. Onyedika is not ready.
@Greenturf; and from what we have seen of Frank Onyeka in the few games he has plated for SE, you can conclude that he’s ready right?
How much of game time was Onyedika granted in those games only for some of you to come here and excuse Peseiro for his exclusion on the basis that ‘He’s not ready’.
Well I am not a coach so what do I know? But from my perspective a young Onyedika that was wanted by AC Milan and currently plays in the champions league deserves a call-up ahead of Etebo, especially when we consider the fact that thus is a friendly. I am also rooting for Alhassan Yusuf to get a call-up soonest.
After the friendly, what next ? Especially as most of the leagues our players play in will be off. Is there no possibility of using this opportunity to thoroughly blend these players together, by opening a 4 weeks training camp for them, as well as bringing in few more new players like Ovie Ejaria, alhassan, obileye etc to train with the team if only to see what they might be able to bring to the team? It will be really regrettable to just waste the whole 6 week doing nothing with our SE. Just my thought though.
Hehehehe….this NFF that cannot pay all national team coaches their salaries is the one that you want to camp players for 28 days…? Will the players sleep under bridges or will they eat grass for those 28 days…? What about camp/daily allowances, match bonuses and others…?
Even national teams going for serious competitions dont get that luxury of a 4 week camp.
Wake up…!
Well, it’s just a shame a whole 6 weeks will go without being able to train together despite leagues being off. That inability to have long camping is seriously affecting coaches ability to produce quality team play as well as give new players opportunity to blood in proper.
Well said @glory. Exactly my thought too. It will be nice to have a training camp.
I don’t think you are allowed to do so.
Apparently, you still need the permission of the clubs which might be unwilling for their players to leave.
This clubs will still have programmes for players that didn’t make it to the world cup.
I don’t think the F.A’s are backed by law to get this players released because it’s not end of season unlike previous world cup tournaments that was held in the summer when most top leagues in Europe are on break.
I was surprised by the inclusion of osayi not long I went to see is highlight as a performing right back in fenerbance . what I saw i was so amàzed of his skills with the bullet speed of ademola. Osayi has really impressed and learnt the trade of a right back so well with easy dribbling you’d be wondering and so direct at goal. What I can say is the right position has enough and capable legs that can face Portugal with ease. Moreover our defensive midfielder has to help in covering up for both wing backs. #PEACE
Where are Victor Boniface(Royals Union Saint Gilloise,Belgium), Alhassan Yusuf(Royal Antwerp, Belgium) and David Okereke(US Cremonense,Italy)?
Bright Osayi Samuel(Fenerbahce,Turkey) and Bruno Sopuruchukwu Onyemaechi(Boavista FC,Portugal) are good additions!
Why is dessers not in the line up. What’s happening again, and also awoniyi. And useless dennis could be drafted.
Supo as ur name implies .ur brain dull .dont u knw dessers is injured
Loooooool you guys won’t kill person on this CSN page, I laughed until I almost got stomach cramp, the name is Shupò not supo that you saw oooooo please and you must have a better way of correcting someone loooool I’m still laughing Sha.
I have this deep gut feeling Paseiro would have qualified us with ease. Man is serious. Only if he’d been allowed to take charge as initially agreed, but we were all carried away by a blitzy display against Egypt at Afcon and tried to make a temporary arrangement a permanent one. Anyway the pain of that loss should be over in about 2 weeks or less.
Ehem, I’m looking at Ndidi with corner eye and won’t be surprised if he pulls out again citing injury. Almost can’t remember the last time he played for Nigeria.
@Greenturf; of course you know what you posted, but you pretend not to know the implication of what you posted as it concerns the initial post from @Paul that oozed ethnic bigotry all over.
You don’t have to mention names brother, we know who the core northerners in the SE are, so let’s just end this matter.

I rest my case.
In round about 8 weeks time, the 2022 Qatar World Cup would have mercifuly ended, thereby paving the way for the 2023 International football season.
Obviously Nigeria is not going to the
tournament, so one has to look at this list released for the friendly against Portugal and the outcome of this week’s friendly against Costa Rica as a sort of barometer of what to expect from the Super Eagles in the next 12 months.
Salisu Yusuf’s lads played very well. A few players from that Costa Rica encounter caught the eye as they provided encouragement of what to potentially expect from a second-string Super Eagles and the Under-23 team next year.
As per this list by Peseiro, it is a strong and supremely satisfactory list. Apart from the goalkeeping department which continues to be very problematic, the other areas have players that can definitely turbocharge the Super Eagles into a prosperous 2023.
But, away from the list, Peseiro’s team is yet to settle into his 4-4-2 Formation. Eguavoen tinkered with a 4-1-4-1 formula against Ghana in the second leg of the world cup qualifier against Ghana in Abuja. It will be interesting to see if Peseiro too will try this formula. I think it holds a huge potential for the crop of players at our disposal.
This list has competent and robust defence, a tried and tested midfield apparatus, jet propulsion on the wings and a razor sharp attack.
That said, players like Samuel Chukwueze, Joe Aribo, Frank Onyeka and Tyrone Ebuehi are long overdue for imposing and compelling performances in Super Eagles colours if selected against Portugal. If they only muster workaday, passable performances, then, clamour for other players to take their place will start to ring loud.
And there are veritable options out there.
2023 is just round the corner. There is a new NFF administration and Jose Peseiro is still relatively new in his role as Super Eagles coach. Where will the Super Eagles be this time next year?
The journey starts now; the Super Eagles have to turn up against Portugal so as to restore confidence and pride back in the brand. Despite the 2:0 defeat Costa Rica, Salisu’s team performed in a manner that provided hope and optimistism.
It’s now up to Iwobi and Co to deliver the goods against Portugal. Next Thursday is just round the corner!
This is a strong squad from Oga Paseiro, kudos to him.
As I said before, after Portugal match then I can say much about the new coach.
For now, only one thing I noticed about him which is late substitutions. Dessers and a player came in late against Algeria and that wasn’t impressive. Too late. If he can fix that then I think he’s ready to go.
But part from that, I see seriousness, passion, determination and never say never in this Oga Paseiro.
If NFF can leave the gaffer alone to do his job then Super Eagles may rule the world of football again. The AJĘWOMASAN the debtor NFF should play pay the coach and the entire crew their dues.
As we can see now, Aina is not available but we have Ebuehi in the squad.
We have three young goalies in the squad and it is not sure for anyone of them.
Not like during Oga Rohr era when Osimhen found it harder to kick the ball during the Afcon in Egypt.
Not until Super Eagles scrambled and he introduced the young striker at the third third place because of Ighalo.
I am sure that if Oga Rohr stays, Ighalo and Akpeyi might be on the pitch against Portugal. That is not encouraging kę.
I’m saying all this because no room for sentiment or tribalism in my heart.
Nigerian people are not easy to please but the way am seeing things with Oga Paseiro putting things together to form a killer squad without bn paid for six months Kai, I think Oga Paseiro definitely deserves an accolade.
All the best to our darling Super Eagles. I know say one day Super Eagles go kuku make Naija people and the entire Africa proud. Iro. God bless Nigeria!!!

Even though I know you @GREENTURF as a DETRIBILIZED FORUMITE. However your POST to @PAUL COMMENTS is beginning to SUGGEST otherwise. Have you been PRETENDING all along or what BRO?
Cos HONESTLY just like @OMOESAN said, you GOOFED big time..
WTF! are you trying to say MUSA and some NORTHERNERS that always gain INVITATION to the SE never MERITED it? They were forced on PINICK?
SMH…
Am DISAPPOINTED at you @GREENTURF..and you seriously need to APOLOGISE..
I mean I have always LOOK UP to YOU and some FEW OTHERS in this FORUM but now am being LET DOWN by your COMMENT….
Apologies to you?For what?Listen I cannot continue to explain myself,if you can’t understand the details I have put through then I’m sorry.
If you’re disappointed that’s your problem. If you think I’m a tribalist it’s your choice. What you think of me does not represent who I am.If you formulate your own opinion on the subject matter of my post I can’t help that. But what you can’t do is drag me into accepting something that’s not true.
.
I am not a tribalist,I think I’m being targeted because I’m vocal I say things the way it’s.I don’t like any tribe better than the other. If I make a comment about a situation it could be about a coach or a player it’s my honest views, those who think I’m a tribalist are simply misguided.
I apologized last time because of the respect I have for members in the forum,I also think I should have been tactful and diplomatic to say things especially sensitive ones without offending people.
Greenturf vs Others
I have resisted commenting on the continued conversation about Greenturf’s comments that came across as tribally inflammatory to some contributors.
But, I choose to no longer keep mute, so, what do we have here?
Paul commented on this thread, celebrating what he called “the exclusion of ‘core’ Northerns from the Super Eagles list for a very long time”. Now, taking that statement strictly on face value, it can be construed to be deeply offensive to a large sub-group of Nigeria’s population – the Northerns.
At a time of heightened political tension, ethnic rivalry, insecurity and general disquiet in the country leading to calls for cessation from certain quarters, statements allegedly celebrating the exclusion of Northerns from the Super Eagles is at best mistimed (putting it very mildly).
Plus, such a comment will definitely not go down well if said in the Northern region of the country – no matter how well intentioned it may be.
Anyone who then appears to inadvertently associate themselves with this comment will definitely have some explanation to do and such a person will struggle to shrug off criticisms (more so if they have a recent history of making ethnically inflammatory statements like saying largely Yoruba coaches pick only Yoruba players (such a person might have apologised, but people have long memories, sadly. An egg, once broken can never fully reverse its entropy)).
Having said all that, this only serves as one side of an interesting coin. Mr Greenturf was right. The erstwhile head of the Nigeria Football Federation is on camera claiming boldly that he “forced Ahmed Musa on Coach Rohr” for the 2018 World Cup.
Also, there can be little harm in Mr. Paul celebrating what he saw as ‘merit trouncing quota system’ in team selection, after all, isn’t that what we all want?
But we don’t want nepotism, tribalism and ethnically decisive statements.
Anyone who writes with insensitivity to the ethnic state of the country should expect backlash, anyone who appears to endorse such ethnically insensitive statements should not be surprised at any retribution that comes their way.
We are one Nigeria, let’s keep it that way!
Too much talk no dey FULL BASKET…
@GREENTURF F*CK UP big time for indirectly ENDORSING that @PAUL’S COMMENT….
He has now join the list of TRIBAL BIGOT we have in this FORUM…
@UGO IWUNZE is their LEADER…
Very true @deo. While I share in @OmoEsan’s sentiments that we should avoid any form of discrimination or disparaging remarks about other Nigerians, I think his conclusion on @Greenturf being a tribalist is a bit hasty.
I mean it takes a pattern to establish a fact – say like 7 – 10 instances. That’s why they often say although first impressions last long, but they’re not always correct (Because certain actions or reactions may simply be coincidences).
That aside, Greenturf has been comparatively busy with comments on this thread and may not have taken time to digest all of the implications of @Paul’s comment before replying, A part of that comment may have struck a chord with him, but not its entirety. So his reply is not necessarily a 100% endorsement – perhaps just a part of it.
I read and enjoy comments from a lot of handles here, and I don’t think @Greenturf is bigoted. I don’t think @OmeEsan is either – and many others.
There are commenters that inadvertently show themselves as tribalists by their rather aggressive promotion or defense of any SE player names that sound theirs. Even though they often try to veil their bias, it seeps out like smoke.
As for Pinnick, we know he’s one badass politician and I don’t fancy him – although he’s Deltan like me. Pinnick’s action are motivated by what he can gain – just like politicians – and he’ll take any action that’ll help him achieve that. We all know he confessed he’s Etebo’s godfather, so he’s a puppet master behind the SE lists – even though Rohr said he resisted some of those moves.
Thanks @Kel,you’re spot on.Much respect to an unbiased mind a good heart God bless you.
In addition You’re very intelligent. You won my respect for good.
You wrote my heart and got my back.Your post is free from sentiment and animosity.
Thank you my friend remain blessed and keep that positive mind, you a star..
@Kel, Thank you for your comment. We’re all entitled to our opinions.
I never called @Greenturf a tribal bigotry in any of my posts, I only advised that we shun tribal bigotry in this forum. You will agree with me that such comments are totally uncalled for and it is disappointing that a hitherto respected forumer like @Greenturf lent credence to it with his response.
Unfortunately this is his second goof in just few weeks and it leaves much to be desired.
We may not know one another individually, but over the years we have formed perceptions in our minds about one another and I believe there should be mutual respect amongst us, regardless of our tribal, religious or political inclinations.
I don’tread every post here and @Greenturf is one of the guys I usually look forward to reading from, but going by the events that have transpired in the last few weeks, ………..
And though PINICK came out to say HE forced MUSA on GENERAL ROAH but I will forever COMMENT my RESERVE until GENERAL ROAH one day CONFIRMS it…
I mean what if PINNICK was trying to use that to DIVERT ATTENTION and cause a DISTRACTION by making GENERAL ROAH look WEAK as a COACH that doesn’t know how to select a TEAM and as a COACH that can be PUSHED around unlike what we know him as a no nonsense COACH…
So PINNICK could be trying push another NARATIVE….
Haven’t you guys thought intelligently about that!
Cos hmm. You see that saying: WARRI no dey carry last no be for fun ooo!!
Nawa o! I’m I lost or something? This place first appeared to me as an Online Chamber where we have lots of lawyers practicing online Laws.
It’s not new to everybody that some players have past their primes but our handlers and coaches are still forcing them on us.
About Northerners whatever, we have Zaidu Sanusi, we have Umar Sadiq and many of us have been clamoring for the invitation of Alhassan Yusuf for a while now(including Greenturf) so wats up? I’m yet to see a right thinking person complaining of the Omission of Shehu and Musa since yesterday ( I repeat, a right thinking person) but I’ve come across few complaining of Yusuff’s omission. Personally, I’m happy that Omeruo, Musa, Ighalo, Balogun(even though he’s still trying), Shehu’s names are not on the list. I really wish to experience new game of football. Let’s see what our newly and inform players can do.
LMFAO!! And I have just seen a RIGHT THINKING NIGERIAN indeed..LOL..(with a very LOW SELF ESTEEME) CELEBRATING and THROWING UP FIREWORKS in the FORUM over AHMED MUSA (who will probably be in a RESORT or a MILLION DOLLAR YACHT right now chilling somewhere in TURKEY and doesn’t give a f…) EXCLUSION from a COMMON FRIENDLY MATCH in preparation for the AFCON in IVORY COAST when CITIZENS from other COUNTRIES are CELEBRATING their PLAYERS and COUNTRY’S PARTICIPATION in the WORLD CUP..
LMFAO….
This is the kind of list I am talking about albeit no Onyedika and Yusuf and we also need to extenf an invite to Eberechi Eze.. you see with the kinds of players still missing now there is no room for dead weights i.e. Musa Igahalo players who are as of now redundant as we are building for future.
We also need Udojie in the team. That way we can alternate Bassey and Udojie.. kudus for the Invite of Ndah he is a strong defender.
Up SUPER EAGLES!!! Musa has finally been dropped we will beat Portugal in this game.
This no body has mentioned this but this is the first time we will have our Spine the team Since Bassey gained prominence. CALVIN BASSEY, WILFRED NDIDI, VICTOR OSIMHEN.
Nigeria can really win this game
There’s a proverb that says,’ when the music change, the dance steps will also change”
Now that we have a new NFF chairman and a new coach, things has to change to new
ways for the super eagles to move higher. So let us watch and see the positive new
changes ahead.
The same person hating on the core North on this forum made a very delusional comment about anothet race the last time..
He flaunted his tribe’s superiority in soccer so wrongly that great forumites had to put him in his place with facts..
Lets call a spade a spade, he is a pretender and a tribal jingoist to the core..
Hypocrites! I won’t apologize for saying the truth. I’m glad you dotards condemning me are familiar with the kind of corruption that has eaten deep into our sports where a certain group of people must get a slot whether they’re doing well or not. Keep deceiving yourselves, you unpatriotic patriots. Yes. I am celebrating. E pain una?
For how long will people continue talking about Genot Rohr? No matter how disappointed you are, this man is gone and gone forever, Maybe. Monkey Post should stop this. You guys refer to Rohr as if he was the best thing to have ever to our football. We could have as well continue to mourn the departure of Westerhoff and all other good coaches of SEs in the past. Not sure Rohr is even thinking of Nigeria again and here you’re @Monkey Posf crying more than the bereaved. Na wa o
@PAPAFEM was WESTERHOFF TREATED UNJUSTLY the way GENERAL ROAH was TREATED?
Listen if GENERAL ROAH had the BACKING of the GOVERNMENT and NFF just like WESTERHOFF had when IBB was the HEAD of STATE,am sure you too would have join in singing HIS PRAISE…
So stop COMPLAINING that we are singing a good man’s name and concentrate on your WORLD CUP PARTICIPATION oopps sorry I forgot no WORLD CUP… LMFAO!
Listen if GENERAL ROAH had the BACKING of the GOVERNMENT and NFF just like WESTERHOFF had when IBB was the HEAD of STATE,HE would have done far far better than WESTERHOFF and am sure you too would have join in singing HIS PRAISE…
