Peseiro stated that the 25-year-old’s presence will be crucial for the Super Eagles at the competition.
The Portuguese has also tipped the striker to emerge top scorer in Cote d’Ivoire 2023.
” From our team, he (Osimhen) was the highest goal scorer during the qualifiers,” Peseiro said at a dinner organised to celebrate Osimhen’s coronation as Africa’s best player at the team’s training base in Abu Dhabi on Friday night.
“Of course his teammates helped him to achieve that. I hope and wish he wins the highest goal scorer and help us win the tournament.”

Who will pass the ball to him? Striking partners who’d want their own AFCON moments? 2 man midfield that opponents would swamp and lock out? A goalie that can’t play route one football? Oh, what if he’s marked out the entire game? Ghana did it then. Let Peserio borrow sense and try to flatter to deceive our opponents that osimhen is not only our weapon!
People tend to forget that the lean midfield has always being a case with the national team. There was a point during the 2013 that onazi even had to play as left back and in that tournament we had only 5 midfielders, namely Mikel,Nosa ogiebor, onazi,Mbah and Fegor Ogude. Please let’s leave the coach to do his thing,at the end of the day the end will justify the means.Shekenah
Yeah, he would be sacked if he failed to deliver. I console myself knowing that we are only in this competition to participate, not to win. The furthest we could go is the second round.
Peisero if you fail to restructure and rebuild your midfield, then forget it. The main battle will be fought in the midfield. Get midfielders that can face openents with the ball, dribble forward, use spaces well, fast&intelligent passes to the attackers, shoot well and score goals when space opens up).
For defence, Omeruo and Bassey combo is cool. (Omeruo is our best Air Marshal in the defence, very tenacious in aerial combat anytime, anyday)
NFF should press hard to get Michael Olise to the Super Eagles for the world cup qualifiers and the tournament proper. That guy is multi-talented. Can play the wings, AM, handles dead balls, corners, distributes the ball well, scores fantastic goals, gives assists, create chances, shoots well, etc. The guy is heading to Man United from Palace as we speak. He will add alot to the team.
Cheers!!!
Lol everybody is a coach in Nigeria
Very cheap to talk
Nigeria is owing their coach 15 months salary, and expect to win AFCON. THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN even with Osimhen
Tinubu just released $1.3m to nff to offset the outstanding debts. I believe it is a payoff. Mali, CIV, our west African neighbors are thrashing opponents for fun – and they are participating in AFCON. Only sure optimists would give Eagles a podium finish, any medal.
Let us have a reset for next year’s edition. 2023 edition is for men, Nigeria parade boys.
Goalie – 11 clean sheets in 34 national team matches.
Sao tome conceded more than half the total number of goals Eagles have scored under Peserio.
14 matches so far.
Total goals for – 31
Total goals against – 19
Wins – 6
Losses – 5
Draws (against less fancied opposition) – 3
After nearly 2 years in charge!
Who else has he discovered? Even Bright Osayi is not even reckoned with again.
Reset Eagles. Let the “cult” be disbanded.
Apart from Osimhen (and I pray the “new boys” are not infected), who else plays passionately forward rather than sideways or backwards in the team?
Just read somewhere that we’re leading the Dubai club 6-0 at halftime. Lookman scored 4, Osihmen scored 2. Awaziem’s partnering Bassey, while Aribo and Onyeka are in the midfield of a 4-2-4 formation.
