Jose Peseiro has reiterated that his target at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire is to win it with the Super Eagles.
Peseiro will lead the Super Eagles in an international friendly with the Desert Foxes of Algeria on Tuesday in Oran.
Prior to Tuesday’s game, the Super Eagles will face the Algerian B team in a test game in Constantine on Friday, 23 September.
And speaking on NFF TV, Peseiro expressed delight about the friendly with Algeria, stating why it is important to his plans of emerging African champions when the next AFCON hold in 2024.
“It feels good and I’m happy for the opportunity to play against Algeria because we need to improve our national team,” Peseiro said.
“I repeat I want to win the next AFCON and for that we need to improve our national team, we need to improve our dynamics, we need to improve our organization in and outside the field.
“You need to create connection with the players, create a relationship inside and outside the field for the players to build a great national team so that’s our goal.“

Peseiro spoke about what he and his coaching crew have been doing concerning monitoring the performance of Nigerian players.
He said:”We have many good players so I believe we can achieve success with our national which made me say I want to win the AFCON because I know the players.
“Me and my staff we keep watching many matches around the world concerning the performance of the players and like I said the national team is open for everybody.“
And on the injury issue with Wilfred Ndidi who has since returned to England:”When Ndidi came the fitness coach at Leicester communicated with our fitness coach because we have that relationship with them, so he said Ndidi complained about a slight injury in their last match.
“So when he (Ndidi) came he did training without intensity, did a small training but felt something in his hamstring and did an MRI scan. So I decided it’s better we don’t use him because I am not going to use a player in a friendly when he can suffer more injuries,” Peseiro stated.
The Super Eagles are top of Group A in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers after winning their opening two games.
Th year pipped Sierra Leone 2-1 in their group opener before hammering São Tomé and Principe 10-0 on match day two in Morocco.

I still can’t say much about you Oga Paseiro. You are very confident which is good.
I need to wait until after Portugal match.
The coach before you said Nigeria can’t win the world cup because Nigeria did not have players in Barcelona, Chelsea, Real Madrid and so on bla bla bla but you Oga Paseiro now saying we have caliber of players that can get the job done for you at least, Afcon trophy is likely possible under you. Kai, let’s wait and see kę.
Let’s start from Algeria first. Under the former world cup, Algeria have been beaten Nigeria wotowoto and I hope that will end Under you.
You have not given excuses so far though, which is good. All I can say now is, best of luck to you Oga Paseiro and your troops. Ire o. God bless Nigeria!!!
Rohr didn’t act like someone who believe his team is unbearable and in turn helped him to get result. With the performance of Rohr, the success of the team became attractive to your Eguavoen and thought he will just walk in and pick any trophy, he started reaching out to people like you and started ranting for Rohr sack. Your Eguavon believed he has team so how come he didn’t qualify us for world cup is the outcome of a match depend on what you say to the media.
Somebody saw that Nigerians expectation on their team is getting overrated and he said the word the way it is, you are shouting upandan.
Oga coach please do not toy with Algeria
Bold and confidence, may your faith see you thru…
Good luck, coach
