World Cup champions Spain marked their first appearance in women’s football at the Olympic with a 2-1 comeback win against Japan in Group C on Thursday.
Japan took the lead in the 13th minute through Aoba Fujino but Ainata Bonmati equalised for Spain on 22 minutes.
Spain then got the winning goal in the 74th minute thanks to Mariona Caldentey.
Spain’s next match is against Nigeria in Nantes on 28 July, while Brazil will battle Japan.
The group’s next game will see Nigeria’s Super Falcons take on two-time Olympic silver medal winners Brazil.
The Nigerian team is making a return to the Olympics after last appearing in the games in Beijing 2008.
