Former Nigerian international Dosu Joseph says he’s still optimistic the Super Falcons will qualify for the next round of the Paris Olympic Women’s Football event despite losing against Spain on Sunday.
Recall that Nigeria narrowly lost 1-0 to Spain in their second Group C game to sit bottom of the group.

However, reacting after the team’s loss, Dosu, in a chat with Completesports.com stated that he’s confident the Super Falcons will get the right result against Japan in their final group game.
“It’s been tough for the Super Falcons after playing Brazil and Spain. The team narrowly lost to Brazil and Spain, but I am still confident that it’s not yet over for the team.
“Mathematically, there is still an outside chance for the team to qualify if the team gets a positive result against Japan, who are having three points. It will be wrong to write off the team.”

Dosu, can you just please keep quiet? Aren’t you people ever tired of dwelling upon this unending MATHEMATICAL CHANCE of qualification? Is Nigeria forbidden from qualifying straight without the heartache of probability?
Very poor team too many old ladies in the team. Very good coach but really the team is old, they need to search for attackers
How could a coach be truly good and he selected “old legs” to play for him,out of many talented female footballers we have all around the world? Your postulation is just too contradictory

What good coach removes his most influential player when at goaless in a match he needs to win? I think the coach has some scores to settle with Agba Baller
Shouldn’t have taken out Oshoala really. She had a big and experienced presence upfront which was slowing down the Spanish offensively and occasionally troubling them defensively.
Oshoala played her part with or without the ball, even if she didn’t get into any one on one situation. Onumonu had minimal impact, even though a very sticky player on her day. But hardly got the ball. That was where experience counted.
With a less experienced team Nigeria would have won. Waldrum organized his team so defensively compact that the foxy Spanish coached ditched trying to penetrate the final ball and opted for lobbying the ball. Incidentally, Brazil also opted for that tactic to score, even playing a quick ball to catch us unawares.
What good coach??? Yeye dey smell funny people!!!!
My grouse is not with the coach nor the players.
My grouse is with the NFF who has failed to raise the standard of football in Nigeria for decades now.
It’s in my lifetime the Super Falcons went to England and walloped the 3 lionesses 3-0 in London. It’s also in my life time a fully homebased Super Falcons team whooped Arsenal Ladies 5-1 in Lagos
I don’t think that can happen now even if Pia Sundaghe were to be the coach of the SF….not when even our female clubs now struggle at CAF women club competions.
We have been playing at the world cup for 34 years now and at the olympics for 24 years, while Spain just made their WC debut in the last decade, won it last year and are just making their Olympics debut in Paris….but seeing the gulf in class in the quality of players Spain parade over ours just made me worried sick about the way forward for female football in the country. Because I know nff has zero plans to develop our football in their heads. The technique to even hit the ball properly was lacking on the part of our players.
Our only win in the Olympics sọ far has been against the Japanese….again, that was when they were still pretty much upcoming on the global stage. They have since been at the world cup final 2ce and won it 1ce.
With a place in the qfinals up for grabs against these Falcons who only entered camp after they had played their own 3rd pre Olympics international friendly, I dont think Japan will be ready to let us off the hook come Wednesday.
NFF, wither thou….?!
Excellent write up!
Your agba ballers was nothing to write home about. she look absent in the game. so stop hyping her needlessly
The players are good but the Coach and NFF is a major to pain on my neck. Every excuses is valid but the coach has no attacking sense on his kit than to rely on luck to create a very very few chance and no wonder they were celebrating their penalty win against Canada in the friendly, after loosing on regular time. I then ask myself so you’re practicing penalty because you know you’re going to defend with 10 players and qualify for KO like how? Zambia’s blessing is our own drawdown and Vice versa but like I said NFF is the first problem with zero planning just like NBBF who sacked winning coaches to install losing coaches and leave it like that. There’s a demon at the helm of affairs in our sporting sector just like other sectors in the country called Zoogeria.
Guys we are doing no good by adding anybody else other than NFF for blame for the lacklustre performance of Super Falcons performance at the on going Olympics tournament, if we are to really root out the problem facing Nigerian football today it is high time we start Singling out the NFF as the soul culprits for Nigerian football descending into the depths of despair, what are we scared off now?.. I mean it is not as if we have not already descended into despair, I mean look at the males game, we are now using the females game as a source of comfort since when has Nigerian football become so bad that we use the females game for Joy, they have already destroyed our males game, I mean Men olympics football Nigeria is not there, yet we still are not singling out the Damn NFF for Sole blame, How many tune up games did Super Falcons play?, yesterday I saw a better spanish team with more chemistry and team coehsion than Super Falcons and that boils down to preparation, I mean Nigeria possessed the best No 9 in spain before she left Assisat, but our team lacked chemistry because they did not prepare well because the damn NFF was busy tampereing with Waldrum’s list instead of making sure Logistics of the team was smooth and now here we are beating around the bush.. it is sad
Nigreians it is high time we revolt against that damn NFF that is of course if we dont want our football to become as weak as Kenya or Seychelles a word is enough for the wise.
NFF AND SPORTS COMMISSION ARE THE SOLE CULPRITS OF ALL OUR TEAMS FLOUNDERING, I MEAN IT IS NOT AS IF WE HAVE REPRESENTATION IN THE MEN’S FOOTBALL AT THE OLYMPICS OR EVEN MALES BASKETBALL TEAM, OUR TWO MAIN MALE SPORTS TEAM IN THE COUNTRY AND WE HAVE NO REPRESENTATION AND YET WE ARE NOT SINGLING OUT THOSE CROOKS IN NFF FOR BLAME. IT’S MIND BOGGLING TO SAY THE LEAST!
Nigeria just shocked Australia CS my apologies for downplaying your headline. I take back my words for the first time my daughter was up with me and proud to be a Nigerian witnessing this historic win.
